Never forget! as you pray this Lazaroo:

“But now be so kind as to look at me. Would I lie to your face? Relent, do not be unjust; reconsider, for my integrity is at stake. Is there any wickedness on my lips? Can my mouth not discern malice?”
(Job 6:28-30)

Job can’t believe it, Jesus.

His friends have stopped comforting him
and started accusing him –

insisting all his troubles
are his fault!

Somehow they’ve forgotten there’s an enemy of our souls

who attacks the righteous.

Pray this Lazaroo in aching compassion:

“…what do your arguments prove? Do you mean to correct what I say, and treat my desperate words as wind? You would even cast lots for the fatherless and barter away your friend.”
(Job 6:25-27)

That must be how the suffering feel, Jesus

when I point out to them the error of their ways.

Job was in the right.
His friends in the wrong.

Is it possible I’m the one who’s in error?

Help me set a guard over my mouth.

Pray this Lazaroo with pedal-to-the-metal commitment:

“…you see something dreadful and are afraid. Have I ever said, ‘Give something on my behalf, pay a ransom for me from your wealth, deliver me from the hand of the enemy, rescue me from the clutches of the ruthless’? Teach me, and I will be quiet; show me where I have been wrong.’”
(Job 6:21-24)

Job had no clue that You were proving his greatness to Satan, Jesus.

Help me trust You, LORD!

even when to me
what’s happening makes no sense.

Pray this Lazaroo with renewed resolve:

“Anyone who withholds kindness from a friend forsakes the fear of the Almighty. But my brothers are as undependable as intermittent streams, as the streams that overflow when darkened by thawing ice and swollen with melting snow, but that stop flowing in the dry season, and in the heat vanish from their channels.”
(Job 6:14-17)

Job’s friends started out so well, Jesus

but before long, couldn’t resist the urge
to kick him while he was down.

May my healthy fear of you

keep me from being one of Job’s “comforters.”

Pray this Lazaroo in deepest gratitude:

“…my groans pour out like water.”
(Job 3:24)

Few people can identify with the depth of Job’s suffering, Jesus.

But You can.

Job had lost almost everything – his wealth, his children and his health.

The only thing that remained were his so-called friends
who told him he was getting what he deserved

a wife who told him to curse You and die

and his life.

But you gave even that – Your life! – out of love for me.

Thank You!

Pray this Lazaroo with rock-solid confidence:

“The LORD said to Moses…”
(Numbers 3:40)

I know You talked to Moses, Jesus, which is why we have –

Genesis…Exodus…Leviticus…Numbers…Deuteronomy…
Psalms 90…maybe the book of Job.

You gave Your Word to us through at least 40 different people

over approximately 4,228 years.

When I read the Bible, I’m not reading some person’s made-up ideas.

I’m reading Your Words to me.

That’s why my heart burns within me

when I read, hear and understand Your Word!

…my life forever changed.

Pray this Lazaroo with fiery determination:

“…sighing has become my daily food…”
(Job 3:24)

Job didn’t get it, Jesus.

He thought he had done everything right.

But then, in one horrible day, he lost it all.

Not knowing how proud You were of him
he concluded You had betrayed him.

But You hadn’t.

You chose Job to prove to Satan that no matter what happened to him

Job would never turn against You.

When I’m confronted with Satan’s temptation

may I too pass the test!

Pray this Lazaroo with laser-focused intensity:

“…whom God has hedged in?”
(Job 3:23)

Job hated what was happening, Jesus –

and for good reason!
He was in horrific pain.

But there was an underlying issue, wasn’t there?

He didn’t like being “hedged in” –
realizing You had put him in a place

from which there was no escape.

We human beings love our freedom, don’t we?

But problems arise when I abuse my freedom
which, if left unchecked, will ruin my life.

O God!
Hedge me in!

Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“…who…rejoice when they reach the grave…”
(Job 3:22)

Job’s suffering was so great

that the grave looked good to him, Jesus!

He’s certainly not the only person in the midst of pain and anguish

who’s felt that way.

But of course, the grave’s not the end.

It’s only the beginning:

Hell for those who’ve rejected You
Heaven for those who’ve trusted You as their Savior.

My goal isn’t the grave, Father!

It’s the joy of what awaits me on the other side.

Pray this Lazaroo with God-given confidence:

“…filled with gladness…”
(Job 3:22)

There are lots of reasons to be filled with gladness, Jesus

but Job’s was pretty bleak.

He was so deeply depressed over the loss of his loved ones, his possessions and his health that he wanted to die.

He assumed when he did, he would be filled with gladness.

He had no clue this was happening

because You bragged about him to Satan!

Teach me to trust You

when life doesn’t make sense.
