Be filled with joy, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Celebrate your festivals…”
(Nahum 1:15)

I love this about You, Jesus!

You don’t want me to keep a sour face.
You love to see me smile.
You love to hear me laugh.

You’re not the author of some dank, dark, depressing religion.

You came to give me all-out, joy-filled, happily radiant life to the full.

It’s Satan who ruins lives

making big promises he can’t keep.

Certainly, the Christian life is full of huge challenges.
Following You isn’t always easy.

But it’s best.

Pray this Lazaroo in deep humility:

“You will no longer walk proudly…”
(Micah 2:3)

I have a choice, don’t I, Jesus?

I can wait for You to humble me
or I can humble myself.

But whichever I choose

I will be humbled.

Knowing that makes my choice crystal clear:

I’d rather do it myself.

So how?

Actually, come to think of it, it’s pretty easy:

All I have to do is take a look in the mirror

remembering the countless sins I’ve committed
and the countless good deeds I’ve left undone.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“…the deep surrounded me…”
(Jonah 2:5)

I’ve never had men grab me up and throw me overboard to drown in the ocean, Jesus

so I can’t identify with what Jonah went through.

At least…not exactly.

But I do know what it is to feel surrounded by deep waters of another kind

to be overwhelmed
to have no idea what to do
not one clue which way to turn.

That’s when I do what Jonah did

and cry out to You to save me!

You…

are my only hope.

Pray this Lazaroo in deepest respect:

“…you drank on my holy hill…”
(Obadiah 1:16)

It’s a mistake to treat You with irreverence

…isn’t it, Jesus?

You want me to be close to You

but not to approach You as I would anyone else.

You want me to know I can tell You anything, at any time

but I’d better be respectful while I’m telling it.

Do You desire 1on1 relationship with me?

Yes!

But may I never forget which of us is the Big 1

and which of us isn’t.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“…the warrior will not save his life.”
(Amos 2:14)

It’s easy to draw the wrong conclusion, isn’t it, Jesus?

When You’ve enabled me to win a few battles
I might start thinking I’m a pretty fair warrior.

I might fool myself into believing I’m a natural soldier
not realizing it’s You who fight and win my battles.

Every time I face another fight

please help me remember to check with You, first!

The last thing I want to do
is face any opponent
on my own.

Watch carefully…as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…behind them a flame blazes.”
(Joel 2:3)

That’s the way it is with some people, Jesus…

they’re all sweetness and light as they approach
but they leave behind a path of flaming destruction as they depart –

lies, deceit, broken promises
manipulation, theft, heartache, abuse
untold damage to the lives they’ve touched.

Don’t let me – whatever the excuse, no matter the reason – become such a person!

Help me be a blessing everywhere I go

leaving whomever I’m with
better off than when I arrived.

Pray this Lazaroo in rich enjoyment:

“…the earth will respond to the grain, the new wine and oil…”
(Hosea 2:22)

This earth You have created is amazing, Jesus!

I press a seed of my choosing into its rich loam
water and wait…and wait…and wait

until one day when I go out to check
a tiny leaf has poked its way into the sunlight.

Day after day, I fertilize, weed, pray
and watch it grow

until one day it’s time to pick and enjoy
what You and I have created

together.
