Pray this Lazaroo in abject humility:

“…deal with them as you have dealt with me because of all my sins.”
(Lamentations 1:22)

There are two ways to pray that prayer, Jesus.

Jeremiah was asking You to punish his enemies for their sins
as brutally as You had punished him for his.

But there’s another way to pray it for those of us who aren’t as worthy as Jeremiah:

Deal with my enemies’ sins as lovingly and forgivingly
as You have dealt with mine.

So be it.

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“…they will take possession of it.”
(Deuteronomy 1:39)

This was a brutally hard thing for Your people to hear, Jesus.

The thing they had worked so hard to accomplish
the land they had journeyed so long to enter

was not to be theirs.

Instead, it was their children who would enjoy it.

Their sin had robbed them of Your promise.

May that not be true of me!

But may all those who come after me

indeed possess what You have promised!

Pray this Lazaroo in passionate anticipation:

“They went down out of the hills…”
(Joshua 2:23)

When I’m up high, Jesus, it’s hard to leave

especially when I’ve been alone with You.

Of course, Joshua’s two spies had been hiding out for their lives in those hills.

But my guess is, while they were hiding

they were praying.

No one can hide me like You can –

nor equip me when it’s time to come down out of the hills
to face the brutality of the valley.
