Pray this Lazaroo bursting with confidence:

“When Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, he became angry and was greatly incensed. He ridiculed the Jews, and in the presence of his associates and the army of Samaria, he said, ‘What are those feeble Jews doing’”
(Nehemiah 4:1-2)

To my enemies, Jesus

I may look feeble.

But if my enemies are Your enemies

my enemies are underestimating what You’re able to do

through one of Your feeble followers
who puts all my trust in You.

Pray this Lazaroo in total adoration:

“All my enemies will be overwhelmed with shame and anguish; they will turn back and suddenly be put to shame.”
(Psalms 6:10)

Quite a promise, Jesus.

Not just a few of David’s enemies will be suddenly overwhelmed and turn back with shame and anguish.

All of them.

Just in case I have any enemies, LORD…

how can I get in on a promise like that?

Oh.

David loved and served You passionately

then wept and cried out to You.

Pray this Lazaroo in abject humility:

“…deal with them as you have dealt with me because of all my sins.”
(Lamentations 1:22)

There are two ways to pray that prayer, Jesus.

Jeremiah was asking You to punish his enemies for their sins
as brutally as You had punished him for his.

But there’s another way to pray it for those of us who aren’t as worthy as Jeremiah:

Deal with my enemies’ sins as lovingly and forgivingly
as You have dealt with mine.

So be it.

Pray this Lazaroo in trusting obedience:

“…deal with them…”
(Lamentations 1:22)

…because I can’t, Jesus!

Oh, I can deal with my enemies

poorly
in a way
inadequately
blindly

but not like You can!

You know which of them I now regard as enemies

will one day become my friends.

You know which of them are acting innocently

and which are acting with evil, malevolent intent.

So I’m going to do my best to obey You

by praying for them

and ask You to handle it.

Pray this Lazaroo with fervent spirit:

“Before them the earth shakes…”
(Joel 2:10)

Pretty scary, Jesus.

When the sound of my approaching enemies shakes the earth

it makes me want to run –

until I remember:

You Are my Stronghold!

My enemies can shake the earth a little

but You can shake it a lot.

When by faith I stubbornly refuse to tremble before my attackers

You see and approve.

You know I’m overruling my natural instincts
because I believe You Are Greater!

and I’ll prevail.

Pray this Lazaroo with bulldog faith:

“Proclaim to the fortresses of Ashdod…”
(Amos 3:9)

Under normal circumstances, Jesus

it’s not wise to spout off to my enemies
especially when they’re more numerous and more powerful.

But when You tell me to take a message to someone –

no matter how big they are
no matter how many there are?

Fine.
I’ll do it.

You’ve promised to bless, heal, guide and protect

those who do what You tell them to do.

That’s all I need to know.

Sell out totally to God as you pray this Lazaroo:

“All my enemies…rejoice at what you have done.”
(Lamentations 1:21)

Wow. Not only am I suffering at Your hands, Jesus

but those who hate me are jumping up and down with glee.

I could throw a fit. Give up. Quit.

Tempting.

But no.
You deserve better.

So I’ll humble myself, attempt to understand why You’re doing this

learn from it, take my lumps
trusting You in Your mercy to do something through me

that makes my enemies stop laughing.

Pray this Lazaroo with laser-focused intensity:

“I will surely raise my hand against them…”
(Zechariah 2:9)

Don’t want to ever hear that, Jesus!

Not as it pertains to me.

I need Your hand to

save me
comfort me
sustain me
strengthen me
guide me
protect me
show me
cover me
lift me
help me.

But dear God!

May Your hand never be raised against me.

Against my enemies, though?

Tempting.
But You’ve told me to pray for them.

Nah. Don’t.
Go ahead and bless them.

Pray this Lazaroo with utter abandon:

“Will they not wake up…?”
(Habakkuk 2:7)

Your prophet is not talking about nice people, Jesus.

They’re the kind I’d rather see stay fast asleep.
I’m not too crazy about my enemies being sharp and alert.

You’re the only one who can keep them snoozing, Father –

or if they happen to be awake and on the prowl
You’re the only on who can put them to sleep.

On the other hand…

please help me keep my eyes wide open.
