Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your heart:

“Why do you now cry aloud—have you no king? Has your ruler perished, that pain seizes you like that of a woman in labor? Writhe in agony, Daughter Zion…you must leave the city to camp in the open field. You will go to Babylon; there you will be rescued. There the Lord will redeem you out of the hand of your enemies.”
(Micah 4:9-10)

When my sins have cost me my home, Jesus

is all lost?

No.

Even in a strange and foreign land

You can rescue me!

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“…to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed? So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief. Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it.”
(Hebrews 3:18-19; 4:1)

Belief in You, Jesus.

That’s the difference between heaven and hell.

That’s the difference between entering Your rest

and falling into a downward spiral
that leads to eternal agony!

Fully open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Ezer and Elead were killed by the native-born men of Gath, when they went down to seize their livestock. Their father Ephraim mourned for them many days, and his relatives came to comfort him.
(1 Chronicles 7:21-22)

The loss of Ephraim’s livestock didn’t even register, Jesus

in comparison to the loss of his sons.

I’m sure he appreciated his relative’s attempts to comfort him

but the agony of this kind of tragedy
doesn’t disappear overnight.

There is a comfort

only You can give.

Pray this Lazaroo in listening obedience:

“Its slave girls…beat upon their breasts.”
(Nahum 2:7)

When men do that, Jesus

they do so in triumph
boasting of their strength.

When women do that

they’re in agony!

How do I respond when I see someone gripped by intense suffering, Father?

Do I have compassion?

Do I check with You
to see if there’s something You want me to do?

True, I can’t bear every burden, fix every problem.

But when You prompt me to act, Holy Spirit

in Your strength, I’ve got to try.

Pray this Lazaroo repelled in horror:

“…God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment…”
(2 Peter 2:4)

That’s a lot of angels, Jesus

an incredible number of cells in those gloomy dungeons
all of them writhing in unspeakable torment
awaiting certain, eternal judgment.

Just thinking about it gives me the willies.

I’m so thankful my trust in You changes my destination
from hell to heaven!

Please give me the courage

to warn others.

Pray this Lazaroo in unashamed desperation:

Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am faint; heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony.”
(Psalms 6:2)

All over the world, Jesus

people battling COVID-19 are praying prayers very similar to this one.

But they’re not the only ones.

So are those battling sicknesses and diseases of every kind.

Nor does it stop with them.

They’re joined by men and women

caught in impossible situations of every imaginable –
and sometimes unimaginable – kind.

O God! Please!

Intervene!

Fully open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“I rejoice in what was suffered for you…”
(Colossians 1:24)

After their babies are born,

mothers feel that, Jesus.

When they’re overwhelmed with love for their newborn

they affirm that the agony of giving birth
was all worthwhile.

Many of them do it again….and again…and again.

By faith, may I say the same about the suffering You’ve allowed in my life, Father!

When I see what You’ve done with it, may I rejoice!

because the agony was all worthwhile.

Pray this Lazaroo with total transparency:

“…who search for it more than for hidden treasure.”
(Job 3:21)

Because of His excruciating suffering, Jesus

Job longed for death.
He didn’t want to feel His overwhelming pain anymore.

If he had only known the reason for his agony –

that You were so proud of Him
that You bragged about him to Satan!

That You were about to take away his pain
and bless him beyond measure.

That was the treasure hidden from him.

What’s mine?

Pray this Lazaroo in tearful confidence:

“People have heard my groaning, but there is no one to comfort me.”
(Lamentations 1:21)

That’s the hardest, Jesus.

When I keep my suffering to myself
it’s not a surprise that no one comforts me.

But when my pain increases to the point that I’m forced to cry out
and still no one shows up with love and compassion

my agony is multiplied by the stunning realization
that I’m abandoned
forsaken
alone.

Except I’m not!
Hallelujah!!

I have You.
