Pray this Lazaroo in open-eyed awareness:

“Then the Lord said to Cain, ‘Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.’”
(Genesis 4:6-7)

Sin is crouching at my door, too, Jesus.

May I never forget how passionately and persistently
sin desires to have me!

But may I always remember:

Greater are You in me
than the one who is in the world!

Oh, no, Jesus.

Not Barnabas!

Not the one who lived up to the meaning of his name:

“son of Encouragement.”

Not the one who convinced the others to accept Paul

through whom You preached and blessed so many

who was willing to disagree with Paul
in order to give quiiter-Mark a second chance.

Dear God.

If he can be led astray, so can I.

But I beg You:

Don’t let that happen!

Pray this Lazaroo with utter abandon:

“…whatever they offer…”
(Haggai 2:14)

I long for whatever I offer You, Jesus

to be accepted.
Pleasing in Your sight.

But the things I give You –

my time, talent, treasure –

are not nearly as important as the state of my heart when I hold them up to You, are they?

If my motives are false
my gifts are detestable to You.

Everything I could possibly give You originates from Your hand.

What You desire
is a clean heart.
