Pray this Lazaroo in sold-out surrender:

“I asked the angel, ‘What are these two olive trees on the right and the left of the lampstand…these two olive branches beside the two gold pipes that pour out golden oil?’ He replied, ‘Do you not know what these are?’ ‘No, my lord,’ I said. So he said, ‘These are the two who are anointed to serve the Lord of all the earth.’”
(Zechariah 4:11-14)

Like Zechariah, Jesus

there’s so much I don’t understand.

But I trust You!

No matter what.

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Shallum…and his fellow gatekeepers…were responsible for guarding the thresholds of the tent just as their ancestors had been responsible for guarding the entrance to the dwelling of the Lord. In earlier times Phinehas…was the official in charge of the gatekeepers, and the Lord was with him. Zechariah…was the gatekeeper at the entrance to the tent of meeting.”
(1 Chronicles 9:19-21)

You place a high priority on guarding the entrances to Your dwellings, Jesus!

May I do the same –

never allowing anyone or anything to enter my life
that would compromise my relationship with You!

Pray this Lazaroo with excuseless obedience:

“Now Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the prophet…prophesied to the Jews in Judah and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel…Then Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and Joshua son of Jozadak set to work to rebuild the house of God in Jerusalem. And the prophets of God were with them, supporting them.”
(Ezra 5:1-2)

That’s what’s supposed to happen when Your Word goes forth, Jesus!

You expect those of us who hear Your command
to get to work.

Pray this Lazaroo in dumfounded awe:

“Then the angel who talked with me returned and woke me up, like someone awakened from sleep.”
(Zechariah 4:1)

Up to now, Jesus, the angel had been speaking to Zechariah at night, in a vision.

But no longer.

As if to underscore the reality of all You sent him to tell the prophet

the angel he had seen in his vision
woke him up…

and there he was!
visible to the naked eye
in the same room with Zechariah.

Wow.

You can do anything, LORD.

Absolutely anything.

Pray this Lazaroo in reverent awe:

“And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him, to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God…”
(Luke 1:76-78)

When Zechariah spoke these words, Jesus

He was filled with the Spirit.

Through Him You were revealing that His son – John the Baptist –

had one overriding purpose:

“to prepare the way

for You.”

Pray this Lazaroo in steadfast faith:

“Everyone who heard this wondered about it, asking, ‘What then is this child going to be?’ For the Lord’s hand was with him. His father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied: ‘Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has come to his people and redeemed them.’”
(Luke 1:66-68)

What am I going to be, Jesus?

Just because I’m what I am now
doesn’t mean the last chapter has been written.

Whatever the answer
may I bring glory to You!

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“He asked for a writing tablet, and to everyone’s astonishment he wrote, ‘His name is John.’ Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue set free, and he began to speak, praising God. All the neighbors were filled with awe, and throughout the hill country of Judea people were talking about all these things.”
(Luke 1:63-65)

When Zechariah didn’t believe You, Jesus

You struck him “dumb – meaning unable to talk.

When anyone else doesn’t believe You

that’s evidence of the other kind of “dumb.”

Pray this Lazaroo with unshakable belief:

“On the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to name him after his father Zechariah, but his mother spoke up and said, ‘No! He is to be called John.’”
(Luke 1:59-60)

Her husband’s lack of belief had already cost them both, Jesus.

Elizabeth wasn’t about to make the same mistake.

You had told them their son’s name was to be John.

So John is what she named him.

May I obey You

with that same conviction!

Pray this Lazaroo with wholehearted adoration:

“Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown her great mercy, and they shared her joy.”
(Luke 1:58)

Elizabeth was old when she gave birth, Jesus.

Other Jewish women most likely looked down on her
supposing God had kept her from having children
because she was guilty of some secret sin.

Zechariah loved her too much to divorce her
though that was his legal right, since she had not conceived.

Oh, how wonderful –

when You come to our rescue!

Pray this Lazaroo in gratitude:

“…she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth.”
(Luke 1:39)

Mary couldn’t wait to go to Elizabeth, Jesus.

Here she was, an unmarried virgin, pregnant with You.
Nobody – before or since – has been in Your mother’s shoes.

But Elizabeth was close.

Although past the age of childbearing
she was also pregnant with a miracle child.

Everyone’s relationship with You is unique, Jesus.

But thanks for putting people in my life
with whom I can – at least a little – relate. 😉
