Pray this Lazaroo in stunned gratitude:

“The LORD…has them inherit a throne of honor.”
(1 Samuel 2:7-8)

That’s Your M.O., Jesus.

You reach down to the dishonored
and raise them to a place of high honor.

Of course, this applies to those who turn to You with their whole hearts –

not to those who stubbornly justify themselves
and continue in their sin with no regrets.

Your forgiveness is amazing, Father!

Others hold my past against me…

but not You.

When I repent

You relent.

Pray this Lazaroo with compassion:

“…not to put it too severely.”
(2 Corinthians 2:5)

That’s a decent goal, Jesus.

Even when someone has a rebuke coming
there’s no point in overdoing it.

When they’re already down, busted and bleeding
why pile on?

Whether they admit it or not, they usually know they’ve blown it.

It doesn’t help when I make them feel worse
than they already do.

Besides, You’ve warned me:

What goes around, comes around.

Severe criticism is a seed

I’d rather not reap.

Pay close attention, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Don’t go and glean in another field and don’t go away from here. Stay here…”
(Ruth 2:8)

Boaz told Ruth to stay put three times in 15 words, Jesus.

It was good advice and Ruth heeded it.

In fact, that’s good advice most of the time.

When things get tough, I’m tempted to go elsewhere
not realizing that sooner or later, things get tough everywhere.

There’s only one good reason to stay…or go:

because I’m following
wherever You lead.

Pray this Lazaroo with ardent love:

“My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power…”
(1 Corinthians 2:4)

I’ll take Your power over words any day, Jesus!

Words are important.
But all too often, talk is cheap.

When all is said and done

more is said than done.

Thank You for everyone who talks the talk

but I’d rather have someone who walks the walk.

And of course…

that’s how others feel about me.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning zeal:

“…the hand of the LORD was against them to defeat them…”
(Judges 2:15)

I can’t imagine a worse position, Jesus!

It’s hard enough to win – under any circumstance.

But to enter a battle knowing You’re against me?

Utterly useless. Fruitless. Worthless.
The very definition of pointless.

The only battles I want to fight are for You, in You

not against You.

Please, LORD!

Show me what I have to do to get on Your side
and never leave it.

Pray this Lazaroo with laser-focused intent:

“They are full of…strife…”
(Romans 1:29)

Who needs that, Jesus?

I don’t.

Life’s too short for bickering, fault-finding, incessant criticizing.

So why do we do it?

For that matter

why do we put up with it?

I don’t know why, but some seem to enjoy it.

In a twisted way, it’s their entertainment.

I may not be able to stop them, Father

but I sure don’t want to be around them.

Grant me the wisdom required

to get away.

Pray this Lazaroo with deep reverence:

“‘Agreed,’ she replied. ‘Let it be as you say.’”
(Joshua 2:21)

Giving my word is no small thing, Jesus.

In this case, Rahab was making a promise
that would save hers and her family’s lives…

but only if she kept her word.

The stakes may not be that high for me, Father –

at least, not so far as I know –

but they’re huge, nonetheless.

If I’m a person of integrity people will trust me

when I point them to You.

Pray this Lazaroo with over-the-top trust:

“Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit…”
(Acts 2:18)

There was a day when the expectation was

that You would work primarily through men, Jesus.

But that day is long gone.

The problems are too great.

The dilemmas too dire.

We need all hands on deck.

Besides, You’re the one who made women

You know how smart, resourceful and gifted they are.

Admit it, LORD…

You were saving the best for last. 😉

Pray this Lazaroo in steadfast faith:

“He will see it…”
(Deuteronomy 1:36)

You fulfill all Your promises, Jesus –

but not everyone gets to see it on earth.

Some tithers die before Your blessings roll in.

Some laborers breathe their last
before their work is rewarded.

Not every parent lives long enough

to see the children they’ve reared according to Your Word
turn to You with all their hearts.

But if we don’t get to, here

we’ll have a better seat to enjoy it
up there.

Pray this Lazaroo in bottomless trust:

“…heard what John had said and…followed Jesus.”
(John 1:40)

I’ve heard what John said, Jesus –

and I’m following You.

Your words through John and the other Bible authors

have the ring of truth like no other.

But that’s not all.

They’re backed up by fact.

Nor is that all.

They’re confirmed by my experience.

If it sounds like the truth

looks like the truth

and lives like the truth

I’m staking my life on it:

It’s the Truth.
