Pray this Lazaroo in humble adulation:

“You are witnesses, and so is God…”
(1 Thessalonians 2:10)

Great reminder, Jesus.

It’s nice to have a human witness –
someone who sees how hard I’m trying to do the right thing.

But You…

Wow.

You’re the Ultimate Witness
the only one who matters.

Human witnesses get it wrong as often as they get it right.

They see what I’m doing
but they can’t view my intent.

You’re the only witness who can credit me with success

even when my wholehearted attempt
falls short.

Be inspired with new purpose, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“They ministered with music before the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting, until Solomon built the temple of the LORD in Jerusalem.”
(1 Chronicles 6:32)

Thanks for this example, Jesus.

What do I do while I’m waiting for the big thing to happen?

I use the gifts You’ve given me
to minister to Your people right where I am.

It’s easy to undervalue the season I’m in

supposing I should wait, hold back
save it up for the main thing.

Not realizing that this…is as important as that.

Pray this Lazaroo with explosive feeling:

“…he is the beginning…”
(Colossians 1:18)

This is so hard for a human being to grasp, Jesus…

You weren’t just there in the beginning
You Are the Beginning!

And lest I forget, You’re not only going to be present in the end.

You Are the End.

I guess that’s why I should call you, “Alpha and Omega” now and then, huh?

The Beginning
The End

to remind me with Whom I’m getting to spend time

deep
daily
moment-by-moment
1on1.

Wow.

O God.

Thank You!

Think back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“And he went on to Mount Carmel…”
(2 Kings 2:25)

Interesting, Jesus…

Elisha was returning to the scene
of his predecessor’s greatest triumph –

the day when he called on You
to rain down fire from heaven

and You obliged.

Nothing wrong with that.

In fact, maybe that’s what I ought to do –

return to some of the places
where those who’ve gone before me

experienced some of their greatest, God-given triumphs.

It might remind me:

If You did it once
You can do it again.

Pray this Lazaroo with a heart for others:

“I will continue with all of you for your progress…”
(Philippians 1:25)

O Jesus!

This is what I long for –

that those with whom I am working
those in whose lives I am investing
those for whom I am fervently praying

will progress in You

nobody standing still
not one of them held back by their past
none of them afraid to trust You for the future.

It might help them to have a decent example to follow, huh?

Guess I’d better make certain I set it.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“Now I have one request to make of you.”
(1 Kings 2:16)

But he was deceiving her, Jesus.

If she had been able to grant it
Adonijah’s “one request” would have cost her her life.

People who come to me with “one request”

usually have something else in mind, don’t they?

No, their “something else” isn’t always lethal

but I’d do well to think it through before I grant it.

I need Your wisdom, LORD!

Otherwise, I’m as helpless and vulnerable
as Bathsheba.

Pray this Lazaroo, overwhelmed with gratitude:

“…God, who is rich in mercy…”
(Ephesians 2:4)

If it weren’t for Your mercy, Jesus…

where would I be?

Oh, I know where I would end up:

Hell.

But even before that – where would I be?

So crushed beneath the accumulated weight of my sins
that I couldn’t

think
speak
function.

No doubt some take advantage of Your mercy

supposing they can continue to sin with impunity.

No!

Cause Your mercy instead to motivate me

to become the person You long for me to be.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“…Saul your master is dead…”
(2 Samuel 2:7)

If I live long enough, Jesus, that will be true of every master I’ve ever had

except You.

But the taskmaster I most long to get rid of

is sin.

Thankfully, I don’t have to wait for that master to die, do I?

You took care of that once and for all when You gave Your life for me on the cross

if I will only avail myself, Holy Spirit
of Your power resident within me.

Pray this Lazaroo with deep longing:

“…they saw that I had been entrusted with the task…”
(Galatians 2:7)

I’m not looking for a way to merely fill my time, Jesus.

I’m not interested in busy work
not even hunting for an enjoyable job that pays good money.

Well, okay…that would be nice –

but it’s not enough.

What I most desire is to know that I’m doing what You’ve called me to do

that every day of my life –

whether for pay or as a volunteer –

I’m laying up treasure for all eternity.
