Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them, and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted…”
(Titus 2:9-10)

I’m Your slave, Jesus!

I desperately want to show you and others
that I’m trustworthy.

But my problem is that sometimes

I haven’t been.

I need Your help to become everything You’ve created me to be!

Please give me another chance.

Pray this Lazaroo with pure devotion:

“Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them, and not to steal from them…”
(Titus 2:9-10)

From the moment I said yes to You, Jesus

I became Your slave –

which means that’s how I, too, should live.

No matter how someone lords it over me

You want me to treat them with respect
and act honorably toward them

because they’ve been created in Your Image
and I represent You!

Pray this Lazaroo with total transparency:

“Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them…”
(Titus 2:9)

That had to be hard, Jesus!

Many slave masters tend to issue their orders
with disrespect, belittling, disdain.

I’ve been spoken to like that myself.

When that happens, everything in me
wants to respond in kind.

How could they – how can I –

not talk back under those circumstances?

Only You, dear LORD!
Only You!

Pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“Every high priest…is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he himself is subject to weakness. This is why he has to offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the sins of the people. And no one takes this honor on himself, but he receives it when called by God…”
(Hebrews 5:1-4)

You are amazing, Jesus!

You deliberately choose flawed people to honor
by calling them to do Your perfect work –

which means You can also work through me!

Pray this Lazaroo with enlightened understanding:

“Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them…”
(Titus 2:9)

In today’s world, Jesus

we’d be hard-pressed to find a single public figure
who would affirm this passage of Scripture.

But that’s because we just don’t get it, do we?

Paul wanted slave masters to be blown away
by the amazing difference there was in slaves who follow you
contrasted with everyone else.

He knew that would bring glory to You

and a better life to those trapped
in the evil of slavery.

Pray this Lazaroo with humble understanding:

“Every high priest is selected from among the people and is appointed to represent the people in matters related to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he himself is subject to weakness.”
(Hebrews 5:1-2)

Help me deal gently with the shortcomings of others, Jesus

since I, too, am subject to weakness.

May I deal with their issues

as tenderly as I want You to deal with mine.

Pray this Lazaroo with white-hot fervor:

“Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything…”
(Titus 2:9)

This isn’t a pro-slavery command, Jesus

it’s a pro-obedience command.

The law required slaves to obey their masters.

You were telling them to obey the law.

Yes, you told slaves to obtain their freedom when possible

but while they remained slaves
You wanted the slaves who bore Your Name
to be the best slaves possible

in order to win their masters and everyone else
to You.

Pray this Lazaroo with unrestrained allegiance:

“…they allowed no one to cross over. At that time they struck down about ten thousand Moabites, all vigorous and strong; not one escaped. That day Moab was made subject to Israel, and the land had peace for eighty years.”
(Judges 3:28-30)

What an amazing victory, Jesus!

But the Israelites were not that superior to the Moabites.

It wasn’t them.
It was You.

Do I need to work on my skills and improve in every way possible?

Sure.

But to truly win?

Only You.

Pray this Lazaroo in instant obedience:

“The Israelites were subject to Eglon king of Moab for eighteen years. Again the Israelites cried out to the Lord, and he gave them a deliverer—Ehud, a left-handed man, the son of Gera the Benjamite.”
(Judges 3:14-15)

I don’t get it, Jesus.

Why did it take them so long to figure out
that You were the only one who could deliver them?

But as soon as I say that, it hits me:

You’re probably asking me the same question.

Pray this Lazaroo with excuseless humility:

“…the older women…can train the younger women…to be subject to their husbands…”
(Titus 2:3-5)

In this day and age

that’s going to take a heap of training, Jesus.

Nobody wants to be subject to anybody.

Our sinful human nature demands:

“Do what you want to do
when and how you want to do it!”

But let me reply with this:

I submit myself totally, wholeheartedly, unreservedly to You, Father!

So whatever You ask me to do

my answer is an immediate, resounding

“YES!”
