Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“…pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil people, for not everyone has faith. But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you…”
(2 Thessalonians 3:2-3)

I need some of that strength, Jesus.

Right now.

Did I say, “some” of that strength?

Make that “a lot” of Your strength!

There are times when Satan’s attacks are relentless

day after day after day.

Without You, I’d never make it.

With You – in Your Strength –

I know I will!

Pray this Lazaroo with every fiber of your being:

“And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil people, for not everyone has faith.”
(2 Thessalonians 3:2)

That seems an obvious statement, Jesus.

Of course wicked and evil people don’t have faith!

Oh, wait a minute…

are You referring to those who only pretend to have faith
but in their hearts are wicked and evil

doing incalculable damage behind my back
while smiling to my face?

Yes, LORD.

Please.
I beg You:

Deliver me from them!

Pray this Lazaroo in rock-solid faith:

“Og king of Bashan with his whole army marched out to meet us in battle at Edrei. The Lord said to me, ‘Do not be afraid of him, for I have delivered him into your hands, along with his whole army and his land. Do to him what you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon.’”
(Deuteronomy 3:1-2)

When You tell me not to be afraid of someone, Jesus

that settles it.

I don’t have to be afraid.

Pray this Lazaroo in heart-pounding love:

“During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.”
(Hebrews 5:7)

The whole time You were here, Jesus

You knew why You’d come.

Even so, You begged to be delivered from death.

As He sometimes says to me
Your Father said, “no.”

But to our resurrection from the dead

He says, “Yes!”

Pray this Lazaroo with no-holds-barred surrender:

“…pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil people…”
(2 Thessalonians 3:2)

Sometimes these people seemingly pop up out of nowhere, Jesus.

But more times than not
I had a hand in bringing them into my life.

Of course, I didn’t know at the time
how much trouble they’d be.

But You did.

You’ve warned me repeatedly
about what happens
when I consort with the wrong people.

I don’t deserve deliverance from their clutches.

But in Your loving mercy
I’m begging You to do exactly that.

Pray this Lazaroo in totally trusting love:

“When Sihon and all his army came out to meet us in battle at Jahaz, the LORD our God delivered him over to us and we struck him down, together with his sons and his whole army. We completely destroyed them – men, women and children. We left no survivors.”
(Deuteronomy 2:32-34)

Our modern sensibilities can’t fathom this, Jesus –

the ruthless extermination of a whole nation of people.

But You – the God of love, forgiveness and mercy – ordered it!

So like it or not
that means it had to be done.

Pray this Lazaroo in fervency of spirit:

“Who knows? God may yet relent…”
(Jonah 3:9)

Even after the prophet Jonah delivered Your declaration of doom, Jesus

Ninevah’s king rallied his people with the hope of Your mercy.

For good reason:
Your mercy is legendary!

Yes, You punish willful, stubbornly repetitive sin.

But it breaks Your heart when You have to do it.
You give us chance after chance after chance to repent.

Even after You pronounce judgment

there’s always hope that You will relent
if we change our wicked ways.

Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Pray this Lazaroo in renewed dedication:

“‘On that day,’ declares the Lord Almighty, ‘I will take you, my servant Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel,’ declares the Lord, ‘and I will make you like my signet ring’…”
(Haggai 2:23)

Why were You so pleased with this governor of Judah, Jesus?

It was because He had the courage to obey You!

He delivered Your warning to Your people
even though it was the last thing they wanted to hear.

He valued pleasing You
ahead of pleasing them.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your heart:

“Deliverers will go up on Mount Zion to govern…”
(Obadiah 1:21)

This is a wonderful prophecy, Jesus!

But please help me remember this about Your Greatness:

You do more than one thing at once!

Yes, this prophecy foretells what will happen in Israel.

But it also teaches an exciting principle:

Those whose focus is helping and rescuing others

are the kind of people best suited
to lead, to rule, to govern.

Self-centered leaders are dangerous.

Deliver us from non-deliverers!

Pray this Lazaroo in renewed wonder:

“Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses…”
(Hebrews 3:3)

Reading those words today seems a no-brainer, Jesus.

But when they were written
most of the Jews would have considered them blasphemous.

Moses was the one through whom You worked miraculous signs and wonders to bring Your people out of Egypt

who led them 40 years in the wilderness
through whom You worked even more huge miracles.

The Jews didn’t know what we do:

It was You.
