Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“Surely he has done great things! Do not be afraid, land of Judah; be glad and rejoice. Surely the Lord has done great things! Do not be afraid, you wild animals, for the pastures in the wilderness are becoming green. The trees are bearing their fruit; the fig tree and the vine yield their riches.”
(Joel 2:20-22)

It’s all about You, Jesus

not my circumstances.

It doesn’t matter that my present landscape is barren.

You’re faithful.
You’re on Your way.

As I keep my eyes fixed on You

my desert will blossom!

Pray this Lazaroo with unrestrained allegiance:

“Look up to the barren heights and see. Is there any place where you have not been ravished? By the roadside you sat waiting for lovers, sat like a nomad in the desert. You have defiled the land with your prostitution and wickedness. Therefore the showers have been withheld, and no spring rains have fallen.”
(Jeremiah 3:2-3)

You liken Your people to a brazen prostitute, Jesus

making it clear how You view our continual sins.

O God!

Keep me pure before You –

in my thoughts, words and deeds.

Pray this Lazaroo with renewed determination:

“You are a swift she-camel running here and there, a wild donkey accustomed to the desert, sniffing the wind in her craving—in her heat who can restrain her? Any males that pursue her need not tire themselves; at mating time they will find her.”
(Jeremiah 2:23-24)

Okay, Jesus.

I think I now have a fairly clear picture
of how You view those who forsake You

and run after other gods.

You alone will I worship

all the days of my life!

Pray this Lazaroo with no-holds-barred gratitude:

“…during the time of testing in the wilderness…your ancestors tested and tried me, though for forty years they saw what I did.”
(Hebrews 3:8-9)

How could they do that, Jesus?

Forty years of seeing Your love, majesty and protection
and still they tested, tried and flat-out disobeyed You countless times!

The same question could be asked of me.

After all You’ve done and continue to do for me
how dare I give You anything less than my absolute best?

Pray this Lazaroo in relaxed anticipation:

“…the exiles…will possess the towns of the Negev.”
(Obadiah 1:20)

Finding out they were going to be given towns

probably sounded great, Jesus…

until they found out they were in a desert

of brown, rocky, dusty mountains
filled with deep craters and dry riverbeds.

Inhospitable? Sure.

But they were exiles.
They made do.

My accommodations on this earth are temporary.

Until I arrive at my permanent home in heaven

I’ll take what I get
and not throw a fit.

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“…they will take possession of it.”
(Deuteronomy 1:39)

This was a brutally hard thing for Your people to hear, Jesus.

The thing they had worked so hard to accomplish
the land they had journeyed so long to enter

was not to be theirs.

Instead, it was their children who would enjoy it.

Their sin had robbed them of Your promise.

May that not be true of me!

But may all those who come after me

indeed possess what You have promised!

Pray this Lazaroo with undiluted sincerity:

“Through the desert…”
(2 Kings 3:8)

Was King Joram happy to hear that plan, Jesus?

I wouldn’t be.

Bad things happen in the desert.

The desert is hot.
The desert is hard.

It was another king who told Joram to take that route.

It would take more than that for me
to deliberately place myself in harm’s way.

My momma didn’t raise no fool.

However.

If I’m sure it’s You sending me through the desert

I’ll start packing my camel.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“People from the Negev will occupy the mountains of Esau…”
(Obadiah 1:19)

When people living in the desert are able to capture mountain fortresses

it’s Your doing, Jesus.

Isaac’s twin sons Jacob and Esau didn’t get along very well –

especially after Jacob stole Esau’s blessing and birthright.

Even though the boys made up later in life

Esau’s descendants took out their anger on Jacob’s
…and triggered Yours.

Help me get over past hurts, Father!

so I can enjoy Your blessings.
