Pray this Lazaroo with deepened understanding:

“You have wearied the Lord with your words. ‘How have we wearied him?’ you ask. By saying, ‘All who do evil are good in the eyes of the Lord, and he is pleased with them’ or ‘Where is the God of justice?’”
(Malachi 2:17)

So let me get this straight, Jesus:

You’re sick to death of our whining that life isn’t fair!

We’re making our judgments

based on three or four factors

while You know what’s really going on
with literally trillions of factors.

We’re trying to track what’s happening

with our tiny circle of family and friends

while You’re tracking the 24/7 lives
of all eight billion people on this planet

while laying groundwork
for the billions about to be born.

Pray this Lazaroo in holy fear:

“You have wearied the Lord with your words. ‘How have we wearied him?’ you ask. By saying, ‘All who do evil are good in the eyes of the Lord, and he is pleased with them…’”
(Malachi 2:17)

To forgive me, Jesus

is a totally different thing
than being pleased with me.

The first happens after I’ve sinned and confessed it.

The second happens when I’ve refused to sin
and remain faithful.

I’m grateful beyond words for Your forgiveness!

But I’d rather You be pleased.

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“You have wearied the Lord with your words. ‘How have we wearied him?’ you ask. By saying, ‘All who do evil are good in the eyes of the Lord’…”
(Malachi 3:17)

That’s like saying You don’t care, Jesus!

…that Your Word doesn’t matter
that we can live any old way we like

while You shrug with a half-smile on Your face
and say, “Oh, well, that’s cool.”

But it isn’t.

For those who deliberately flaunt Your loving laws

one day they will discover to their horror:

it’s very, very hot.

Pray this Lazaroo with excuseless humility:

“You have wearied the Lord with your words.”
(Malachi 2:17)

I don’t want to do that to You, Jesus!

In fact, I didn’t think I could.
I didn’t think You ever grew tired or weary.

But You don’t become weary from the mighty miracles You perform.

What wearies You is when I don’t do
what I say I’ll do.

You’re sick to death of empty words.

O God! Forgive me!

May I always – in Your strength –
keep my word to You.
