Pray this Lazaroo in sobered assessment:

“…he has not remembered his footstool in the day of his anger. Without pity the Lord has swallowed up all the dwellings of Jacob; in his wrath he has torn down the strongholds of Daughter Judah. He has brought her kingdom and its princes down to the ground in dishonor.”
(Lamentations 2:1-2)

There’s a line I don’t want to cross, isn’t there, Jesus?

You treat us so well, so lovingly
with such mercy and forgiveness

that we forget…

out there somewhere…

that line is there.

Be on your guard, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…we are not unaware of [Satan’s] schemes.”
(2 Corinthians 2:11)

Paul wasn’t, Jesus

but too often, I am.

I forget that my struggle is not against flesh and blood

but against the rulers, authorities, powers of this dark world
and spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Holy Spirit! Remind me to put on the full armor of God

so that when the day of evil comes
I’ll be able to stand my ground
and after I’ve done everything

to stand.

Pray this Lazaroo with clear-eyed recognition:

“Are [the rich]…not the ones who are slandering the noble name of him to whom you belong?”
(James 2:6-7)

You hate it when I fawn on the rich, Jesus –

when I favor them over the poor.

It’s so easy to be so awed by a profane person’s apparent success

that I forget theirs is not an example worth following.

Of course, there are good rich people, too.

But may I honor them for their goodness

not for their wealth.

Pray this Lazaroo in humble gratitude:

“…a foreigner…”
(Ruth 2:10)

Ruth isn’t the only one, Jesus.

I, too, am a foreigner.

This world is not my home!

Just about the time I forget that
behaving as though this world is it

You allow it
to rear its perverse, unfair, twisted head.

In deepest gratitude I lift my eyes back to You

my longing for heaven increased…doubled…tripled.

Only with You will I finally be at home.
Only with You will I know lasting rest, happiness, peace.
