Pray this Lazaroo with compassion:

“Woe to the city of blood, full of lies, full of plunder, never without victims!”
(Nahum 3:1)

That’s what got to You the most, wasn’t it, Jesus?

The victims.

Those who lost their lives due to the monstrous cruelty embedded in Nineveh’s culture.

Those who lost loved ones, grieving without relief.
Broken promises, broken homes, broken lives.

It was all about the victims then

it’s all about the victims now.

You’re the same – yesterday, today and forever.

Our suffering
continues to break Your heart!

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“‘I am against you,’ declares the Lord Almighty. ‘I will burn up your chariots in smoke, and the sword will devour your young lions.’”
(Nahum 2:13)

The young lions are the future, Jesus.

If You punish a nation by destroying the best of their youth
You doom that country to become increasingly weak

eventually to disappear

which is exactly what happened in 637

to the once great city of Nineveh.

O God!

I beg You: Spare our young lions!

Pray this Lazaroo with utter abandon:

“When Jonah’s warning reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust.”
(Jonah 3:6)

Three things revealed how seriously the king took Your warning, Jesus:

He took off his royal robes, thus stripping himself of his position.
In humility, he covered himself with sackcloth.

And then to top it all off

he sat down in the dust, like a dog.

May I heed Your warnings

with no less clarity!

Stand in awe, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Now Nineveh was a very important city…”
(Jonah 3:3)

Every city is important to You, Jesus!

But Nineveh was important to Your plan of the ages at that exact moment in time –

not only for the world then…but the world now.

Everything written in Your Word in the past

You’re using to teach us in our present.

The amazing experiences You gave Your reluctant servant Jonah

demonstrate the extreme measures to which You’ll go

to save a sinful city.
