Pray this Lazaroo with every fiber of your being:

“God…wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.”
(1 Timothy 2:3)

I don’t grasp all of Your truth, Jesus

but I have to know enough truth about You
to be saved.

It’s not just about wanting to miss hell and go to heaven

though I do!

It’s admitting I’m a sinner who can’t save myself

and trusting in You
who through Your death, burial and resurrection

demonstrate Your unquenchable love for me.

Pray this Lazaroo with utter abandon:

“…supervising those working on the house of God.”
(Ezra 3:9)

Is there any greater work, Jesus?

No.

Not for the supervisor
not for those working on Your house.

The thing is, every one of Your followers

has that sacred opportunity.

Doesn’t matter how humble, how seemingly insignificant.

If it’s done to serve You
it’s great.

The one who pulls a weed for You is doing a higher work

than the CEO who leads a Fortune 500 company

for herself.

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with…every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing.”
(2 Thessalonians 2:9-10)

May evil never deceive me, Jesus!

Of course, it has
too often.

But even while I partook of its lies, sampled Satan’s wares

I knew better.

When I’m tempted to sin, You continue to warn me

when I give in to temptation, You convict me

which is why I pray:

May evil never again deceive me!

Pray this Lazaroo in highest praise:

“Then Solomon began to build the temple of the LORD in Jerusalem…”
(2 Chronicles 3:1)

Where else, Jesus?

Your holy city

the place above all others

You chose to dwell
placed Your Name
revealed Your glory

the place above all other cities

where you built up Your walls
where kings brought You gifts
that King David considered his highest joy

the place where You

taught huge crowds
worked stunning miracles

the hallowed place

for whose peace we fervently pray.

Pray this Lazaroo with undiluted sincerity:

“…God, who calls you into his kingdom…”
(1 Thessalonians 2:12)

What an honor, Jesus!

Most people have to be born into a kingdom.
Instead, You’re calling me to –

oh. Right.

I have to be born into Your kingdom, don’t I?
Make that: “born again.”

So I acknowledge my sin, my inability to save myself.

I admit You’re my Only Hope.

I believe You died and rose again

paying for all my sins in full.

Now, what?

Keep following You.

Pray this Lazaroo with explosive feeling:

“…making atonement…”
(1 Chronicles 6:49)

The blood of bulls, sheep, rams and goats never really did make atonement for the sins of Your people, did they, Jesus?

You accepted it as though it did
but down deep, we had to know:

It just wasn’t enough.

But You were teaching us, weren’t You?

preparing us
even setting us up

for the day when You, the true Lamb of God

would give Yourself as the ultimate sacrifice
making atonement
in full.

Fully open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“But now he has reconciled you…”
(Colossians 1:22)

I see those words, Jesus

but I don’t understand them.

You’re perfect, sinless, pure, holy.

I’m the exact opposite.

How can the North and South poles be joined together?
How can east and west meet?

A miracle.
We’re talking a miracle.

But as impossible as my reconciliation to You seems

the fact that You would even want
to be reconciled to the likes of me

is the greatest miracle of all.

Pray this Lazaroo with locked-in faith:

“…the wool of a hundred thousand rams.”
(2 Kings 3:4)

That’s a lot of wool, Jesus

not to mention a lot of rams.

The great thing about shearing them

is that it all grows back.

A year later, they produce another hundred thousand coats.

Good for them
good for those who need their wool.

I’ve been sheared a few times myself, Father!

Next time You see fit to shear me of all my wool
help me remember these rams.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“This is a sign to them…”
(Philippians 1:28)

I’m pretty adamant about other people seeing the signs, Jesus

but how am I doing with that?

Just because I see an obvious sign others are missing

doesn’t mean I’m not missing a sign You’re giving me.

I do want to help others see the way

but it’s a little hard to keep them from stumbling
when I’m flat on my face.

Please keep me alert, perceptive, astute, engaged

and humble.

Pray this Lazaroo with full-on ardor:

“Do not refuse me.”
(1 Kings 2:20)

Depending on the person who says it, Jesus

this is either an easy request
or a hard one.

If it’s someone I like, respect or trust

I’m going to want to honor it.

If it’s someone I dislike and don’t trust

I’m going to be very suspicious.

Ultimately, however, it doesn’t come down to what I think of them.

The only thing that matters
is what You want me to do.
