Set your goals, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“I will raise up for myself a faithful priest, who will do according to what is in my heart and mind. I will firmly establish his priestly house, and they will minister before my anointed one always. Then everyone left in your family line will come and bow down before him…”
(1 Samuel 2:35-36)

You’re big on faithfulness, Jesus.
You greatly value obedience, too.

You reward those who are faithful and obedient

and punish those who aren’t.

Pray this Lazaroo with deep reverence:

“What advantage, then, is there in being a Jew, or what value is there in circumcision? Much in every way! First of all, the Jews have been entrusted with the very words of God. What if some were unfaithful? Will their unfaithfulness nullify God’s faithfulness? Not at all! Let God be true, and every human being a liar.”
(Romans 3:1-4)

You made some promises to Abraham, Moses and David, Jesus.

You intend to keep them.

You’ve made promises to me, too

all of which You will fulfill.

Pray this Lazaroo with total transparency:

“Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house…”
(Hebrews 3:5)

Faithfulness is good, Jesus.

But Your description of Moses
shows me there are degrees of faithfulness.

Apparently, it’s possible to be faithful in part of Your house

and unfaithful in others.

A husband might be faithful to church
but unfaithful to his wife.

A woman may be faithful to serve others
but unfaithful in tithes and offerings.

Help me be like Moses:

faithful in all Your house!

Pray this Lazaroo with purified purpose:

Let love and faithfulness never leave you…Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.”
(Proverbs 3:3-4)

I need Your favor, Jesus. Desperately.

Without it, I won’t survive, let alone thrive.

I don’t know how others make it without a deep, daily, moment-by-moment 1on1 relationship with You

but I know I can’t.

Do I want a good reputation among others? Yes.

But the only approval I absolutely have to have

is Yours.

Pray this Lazaroo with pedal-to-the-metal commitment:

“Let love and faithfulness never leave you…Then you will win favor and a good name…”
(Proverbs 3:3-4)

Wow. That’s pretty powerful, Jesus.

I usually think about love and faithfulness
being a blessing to others.

But now, You’re reminding me:
It’s a blessing to me, as well.

That’s so much like You!

Every time I do something to please You
or do something for others because You tell me to

it ends up helping me.

I really can’t out-give You!

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“Let love and faithfulness never leave you…write them on the tablet of your heart.”
(Proverbs 3:3)

So, Jesus…

my heart has a tablet.

I know – not the kind of tablet sold in electronics stores

but a real tablet nonetheless

the kind that goes deep into my very being
forever changing my thoughts, words, behavior.

Show me how to write Your words on the tablet of my heart, Holy Spirit!

ensuring that I will mature, grow, understand
and honor You.

Pray this Lazaroo with pure devotion:

“Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck.”
(Proverbs 3:3)

Many of Your people have taken this command literally, Jesus.

They’ve made necklaces and choke chains of these words
and worn them day after day.

That’s a good thing!

It’s a reminder of what matters.
It sure beats the jewelry a lot of people wear.

But I suspect You intend that command to extend beyond wearable Scripture

all the way to my actions.

Today.

Pray this Lazaroo with determination:

“Malkijah…and Hasshub…repaired another section…”
(Nehemiah 3:11)

Some days that’s how it goes, Jesus.

In fact, most days that’s how it goes.

Another section, another task like yesterday’s, another day like the one before.

Not starting anything, not completing anything
slogging through the interminable middle.

At such times it’s hard to grab perspective.

It’s easy to lose the whole point

until I remember that this is what You call, “faithfulness”

and that You richly, lavishly, with absolute certainty

reward it.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“…you are faithful…”
(3 John 1:5)

If only You could say that about me, Jesus!

Well…at least in some areas…You can.

But not in all.

There are seasons, days, moments
when I drop the ball.

That’s a euphemism I prefer

to confessing that I’ve inexcusably sinned.

I know no one is perfect.

I’m aware we all stumble in many ways.

But that doesn’t change the fact that in Your strength

I’ve got to give my all

because You deserve better.
