Pray this Lazaroo with steely determination:

“…save others by snatching them from the fire…”
(Jude 1:23)

I’m thinking of three ways to save people, Jesus:

1. Encourage them to develop a Deep, Daily, Moment-by-Moment 1on1 relationship with You.

2. Warn them not to sin.

3. Go after them and rescue them when they’re steeped in wrongdoing.

That last is the hardest.

People who are up to their ears in evil seldom want to hear about You.

But because You command me to do it

I will!

Pray this Lazaroo with undying love:

“…these people blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like unreasoning animals, creatures of instinct…”
(2 Peter 2:12)

It’s hard to believe there are people like this, Jesus!

You’ve created us all in Your Image.

Some of us act like it most of the time.
Others seldom act like it.

But sadly, none of us acts like it all of the time.

Please forgive me for the times
when I’ve acted like an animal!

and may I increasingly
reflect Your likeness.

Pray this Lazaroo with explosive feeling:

“Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: ‘Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.’”
(Galatians 3:13)

You loved us that much, Jesus!

You love me that much.

Me.

Totally unworthy, sin-plagued, mistake-ridden me.

Incomprehensible.

At my best, I’m barely tolerable.
At my worst, I’m unlovable.

I’m at my best so seldom.
I’m at my worst too often.

And still, You love me!

Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Pray this Lazaroo with undiluted sincerity:

“Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, ‘children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.’”
(Philippians 2:14-15)

There’s a payoff for doing life Your way, Jesus!

There’s always a payoff.
A very good payoff.

It seldom happens when or how or where I imagined it would

but when it does, I’m blown away.

Still the greatest payoff of all for doing things Your way

is the certain knowledge that I’m putting a smile on Your face.

Pray this Lazaroo in holy recognition:

“…the Jews…killed…the prophets…”
(1 Thessalonians 2:14-15)

Yes, they did, Jesus.

When You sent Your prophets to correct Your people’s sins
they were seldom received with open arms –

all too often, with hatred, threats, beatings, imprisonment

…and stones.

But Jews are not the only people who shoot the messenger.

It’s hard to be confronted with my wrongdoing.
I want to lash out at the person who’s in my face

until I drop my pretense and acknowledge:

You’re the One who sent them.

Pray this Lazaroo with mounting faith:

“When a trumpet sounds in a city, do not the people tremble?”
(Amos 3:6)

Well, no, Jesus.

Not much anymore. At least, not in my city.

When a trumpet plays taps at a funeral

we’re usually sad…but seldom tremble.

These days, trumpets are happy instruments

bringing bright, brassy sounds to bands, orchestras, concerts.

But back in the day, the sound of a trumpet in the city

meant the enemy was attacking.

And one day Your trumpet

will melt hearts.
