Pray this Lazaroo with passionate gratitude:

“My loved one had a vineyard on a fertile hillside. He dug it up and cleared it of stones and planted it with the choicest vines. He built a watchtower in it and cut out a winepress as well. Then he looked for a crop of good grapes, but it yielded only bad fruit.”
(Isaiah 5:1-2)

That’s how beautifully You’ve treated me, Jesus

and how horribly I’ve treated You.

Please forgive me!

I desperately want You to receive full value
for Your loving investment in me!

Pray this Lazaroo with undying love:

“…these people blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like unreasoning animals, creatures of instinct…”
(2 Peter 2:12)

It’s hard to believe there are people like this, Jesus!

You’ve created us all in Your Image.

Some of us act like it most of the time.
Others seldom act like it.

But sadly, none of us acts like it all of the time.

Please forgive me for the times
when I’ve acted like an animal!

and may I increasingly
reflect Your likeness.

Pray this Lazaroo with white-hot fervor:

“Moses said…‘I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.’ The Lord said to him, ‘Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord?’”
(Exodus 4:10-11)

Please forgive me, Jesus

for all the times I’ve pulled out that same lame excuse

and told You why I couldn’t do what You’ve told me to do.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“‘Hear this and testify against the descendants of Jacob,’ declares the Lord, the Lord God Almighty.”
(Amos 3:13)

Some things are hard to hear, Jesus

so we plug our ears
making noises with our mouths
engaging in frenetic activity

trying to keep Your warnings of doom
from penetrating all the way to our hearts
forcing us to repent.

But it’s the hardest messages from You

that I most need to hear, isn’t it?

Forgive me, LORD!
I’m listening.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition…”
(Philippians 2:3)

That’s a tall order, Jesus!

Oh, not because I don’t agree.
But because selfish ambition is so hard to recognize.

Oh, not all that hard to recognize in others.
But devilishly hard to recognize in myself.

I used the right word, didn’t I?

Selfish ambition comes straight from the pits of hell.

O God!

Forgive me for every self-centered thought and act!

Purify my ambition!
May I desire Your will

and Your will alone.

Pray this Lazaroo in abject repentence:

“…stand firm…”
(2 Thessalonians 2:15)

Is there any other way to stand, Jesus?

Sadly, yes.

Have I ever been wishy-washy in my stand for You, LORD?

speaking up for You some of the time
but not in others?

Have I ever been timid in my stand for You?

fearful, squeamish, unconfident.

Have I ever been absent in my stand for You?

failing to show up.

If so, O God! Forgive me!

May I from this moment forward

stand firm.

Pray this Lazaroo in renewed determination:

“Many will…bring the way of truth into disrepute.”
(2 Peter 2:2)

The fact that many people are bringing Your good news into disrepute

is an abomination, Jesus!

It breaks my heart.

Of course, some of them are unbelievers who attack from the outside.

But those who do the most harm are those who claim Your Name
but do not live according to Your Word.

Forgive me for those times I’ve fallen short.
May I bring You nothing but glory!

Pray this Lazaroo in humbled dedication:

“They are…boastful…”
(Romans 1:29-30)

Boasting is hard to take, Jesus.

When somebody starts telling me how good they are
or goes on and on about what they’ve accomplished
or attempts to impress me with their important friends

I can hardly bear it.
I can’t wait for them to stop.

So why do I do it?

What makes me think others want to hear what I don’t?

Please forgive me!

I have no reason to boast about anything

but You.

Fully open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…the…struggle…you saw I had…”
(Philippians 1:30)

So how do I respond to people’s struggles, Jesus?

Sometimes I hurt with them, feel it to the bone
fervently pray.

But at other times, not so much.

Sometimes I quickly look away
not wanting to grapple with it.

Sometimes I shudder,
thinking, “Glad it’s not me.”

Sometimes I believe they’re getting
what they deserve.

Forgive me, LORD!

Enable me to respond to their pain
as I beg You to respond to mine.

Pray this Lazaroo with every fiber of your being:

“…you have…shown partiality in matters of the law.”
(Malachi 2:9)

Not something that pleases You, Jesus.

You gave Your law to be applied equally, fairly, to all.
Instead, they used it inconsistently

holding some to its righteous standards
excusing others.

I can’t begin to imagine how displeased You are

with my inconsistency, LORD.

Please forgive me!
I am utterly without excuse.

All I can do is give it everything I’ve got

and beg You to be Yourself in me.
