I don’t always get what I want, Jesus.

It’s kind of comforting to note:

Neither did Paul!

Maybe I should rephrase that:

“I don’t always get what I think I want.”

You’ve let me have my way enough times to prove to me:

Sometimes what looks good from a distance

isn’t at all good up close.

I don’t need any more proof, Father.

Give me only what You know is best!

Everyone? Fully mature in You, Jesus?

Now, that would be an all-time miracle!
Especially for the likes of me.

But that’s exactly the miracle for which I pray –

not only for all my brothers and sisters in You
but also for me –

the least deserving
lowliest follower
of them all.

Give me Your mindset!

In a sense, we all grow up in Your Presence, don’t we?

You’re everywhere!
Omnipresent!

But what You had with Samuel was closer, more intimate, wasn’t it?

He walked with You, talked with You.
You made him Your very own.

He learned to discern Your One-of-a-kind Voice.

I want that.
