Pray this Lazaroo in never-say-die determination:

“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.”
(2 Corinthians 4:7-9)

You Are that Treasure, Jesus!

It’s true:

I’m often hard-pressed, perplexed, persecuted
even struck down…

but never:

crushed, in despair, abandoned
and certainly not destroyed.

All this for You, LORD –

Shine through me!

Pray this Lazaroo with a transparent heart:

“Anyone who does what is good is from God.”
(3 John 1:11)

That’s…quite a statement, Jesus.

There are a lot of people out there
who don’t accept You as Savior
who do good.

Oh, but wait a minute.

A deed is truly good
only when it’s done from pure motives –

and pure motives
originate with You.

When I do a so-called good deed
to win the approval of others

I’m serving myself –

not You or them

and the deed is soiled.

Pray this Lazaroo in humble adulation:

“I ask you, therefore, not to be discouraged because of my sufferings for you, which are your glory.”
(Ephesians 3:13)

It’s hard not to be discouraged by suffering, Jesus

especially when it’s happening to me, personally.

But that wasn’t why Paul was suffering.

He was suffering for others!

O God.

Grow me up in my faith.
Give me Paul’s compassion for others!

Correction: That’s not Paul’s compassion.

That kind of compassion
comes straight from You

proven 2,000 years ago
on the cross.

Pray this Lazaroo with anticipation:

“The vision of Obadiah.”
(Obadiah 1:1)

And so begins the shortest book of the Old Testament, Jesus.

From scant clues within its 21 verses
we surmise Obadiah may have been
the first of the writing prophets.

Obadiah is a popular Bible name, given to 12 different men.

However, we don’t know for sure that he was any of them.

But these words aren’t from him, are they?

They are a direct, powerful, blistering message of warning

through him
from You.

Pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“…comes…from the world.”
(1 John 2:16)

The source matters, Jesus.

If it comes from You, I can trust it.
If it comes from the world, I can’t.

When I read or hear anything

I’ve got to run it through the test of Your Word.
If it flunks the test, I’ve got to reject it.

No matter how attractive
no matter how successful the person who said it

it’s poison.

If I swallow it
its acid will eat me alive.

Pray this Lazaroo with deep reverence:

“The LORD Almighty has a day in store for all the proud and lofty…”
(Isaiah 2:12)

You have a day in store for me, too, Jesus –

but not that day! Please, not that day!

I don’t think there’s any pride in me, any sense of loftiness…

but if there is, eradicate it! Stomp it out! Kill it!

I know You hate it, can’t tolerate it.

So do I.

All I possess or any good I’ve done

is from You.

Stuff to check as you pray this Lazaroo:

“’What!’ exclaimed the king of Israel. ‘Has the Lord called us three kings together only to deliver us into the hands of Moab?’”
(2 Kings 3:10)

They had been marching through the desert for a week, Jesus. Now they were out of water.

Faced with this terrifying development
the King of Israel blames You.

Help me go to school:

1. Make sure I get my marching orders from You.

2. If I have, trust You to supply everything I need.

Pray this Lazaroo with desperate desire:

“Having been warned in a dream…”
(Matthew 2:22)

Thank You for doing that for Joseph, Father.

I’d love You to do that for me!

Maybe You already have, many times.

But did I understand them?
If so, did I heed the warning?

If not, that might tend to reduce the number of warnings You give me in the future.

Oh, Jesus! Teach me how to recognize the difference

between an ordinary dream
and one imparting a message from You.

Take warning as you pray this Lazaroo:

“The metal on the chariots flashes…”
(Nahum 2:3)

It’s happening in broad daylight, Jesus

and there’s not one thing the Ninevites can do about it.
This punishment is from You.

Why?

It was their cruelty, wasn’t it?
their witchcraft and prostitution.

You sent your prophet Jonah to warn them.

They listened! Repented!
You relented.

But after You showed them kindness

they went right back to it.

O God!

May I never repeat their mistake
in response to Your grace.
