Pray this Lazaroo with earnest desire:

“As I listened, he said to the others, ‘Follow him through the city and kill, without showing pity or compassion. Slaughter the old men, the young men and women, the mothers and children, but do not touch anyone who has the mark. Begin at my sanctuary.’”
(Ezekiel 9:5-6)

Such violent, merciless punishment violates our modern sensibilities, Jesus.

But we fail to recognize the depth of idolatry’s evil
and the rapidity with which it infects those it touches.

At some point I have to decide:

Do I trust my LORD and Savior to do only what’s right?

Pray this Lazaroo with burning zeal:

“Jesus declared, ‘I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.’ ‘How can a man be born when he is old?’ Nicodemus asked. ‘Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb to be born!’”
(John 3:3-4)

The New Life You grant to all who put their faith in You, Jesus

is a fresh, brand-new start
even more profound

than the miracle
of a baby’s first breath
on this earth.

Pray this Lazaroo in renewed dedication:

“…children and infants faint in the streets of the city. They say to their mothers, ‘Where is bread and wine?’ as they faint like the wounded in the streets of the city, as their lives ebb away In their mothers’ arms.”
(Lamentations 2:11-12)

Oh, how painful to hear these words, Jesus!

The suffering of the children
because of the sins of their parents.

It’s not fair!

But it’s the price of sin.

We think our sins affect us alone

but we’re dead wrong.

Pray this Lazaroo with pedal-to-the-metal commitment:

“…the older women…can train the younger women to love their…children…”
(Titus 2:3-4)

Most young moms have deep feelings of love for their children, Jesus

but that’s not the same as loving them
the way they need to be loved.

You’re the One who reveals when they need a hug

and when they need discipline

when they need encouragement
and when they need ultimatums

when they need their mothers to hold on tight
and when their mothers must let them go.

Pray this Lazaroo in clear-headed obedience:

“…it was the practice of the priests…”
(1 Samuel 2:13)

Just because it’s a priest who does it

doesn’t make it right, Jesus.

The same goes for pastors, mothers, fathers, popes and presidents.

Honored position doesn’t insure righteous behavior.

In this case, the priests under Eli were engaging in detestable behavior.

Open my eyes, LORD!
Please don’t let me be blinded by position!

Show me how to wisely deal with such leaders

and never follow in their evil footsteps.

Take a clear-eyed look, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…children who do not yet know good from bad…”
(Deuteronomy 1:39)

Those have to be some pretty young kids, Jesus

because most little ones catch on awfully quick.

Oh, they may not understand why something is good or bad

but even as babies they can immediately tell
when their mothers and fathers are pleased or displeased.

You’ve made it clear:

A child’s character is revealed
by what they do.

So is mine.
God help me, so is mine.

Pray this Lazaroo…in faith:

“Why did I not perish at birth, and die as I came from the womb?”
(Job 3:11)

Job was in agony, Jesus!

wishing he’d never survived that shortest
and longest of all journeys

the trip from the safety of mother
to first breath in the outside world.

But he was wrong.

His suffering was short-lived.
You blessed him more at last than at first.

If only mothers about to abort their babies

could trust You to do the same.

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“Flowers appear on the earth…”
(Songs of Songs 2:12)

Yes they do, Jesus…

every Spring.

You are faithful to bring us their stunning beauty worldwide

year after year after year.

On this USA Mother’s Day Your gift of flowers is the perfect reminder

that whether my mother was

great
awful
or somewhere in-between

You knew precisely the kind of mother I needed

to inspire me, inform me, caution me, drive me

to become the person You’ve created me to be.
