Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“We ought therefore to show hospitality…”
(3 John 1:8)

It’s not enough to feel hospitable, is it, Jesus?

You want me to show it.
Others want me to show it.

But do I?

It’s so easy to become consumed
with my life, my work, my family, my pursuits –

to leave others to focus on their own lives
while I focus on mine.

Clearly, however, that’s not what You desire.

Open my heart, LORD!
to everyone You’re calling into my embrace.

Pray this Lazaroo with pure devotion:

“So my heart began to despair over all my toilsome labor under the sun.”
(Ecclesiastes 2:20)

It’s easy to overvalue what I do, Jesus.

It seems important to me, or I wouldn’t do it.

But when I check back on the results

I’m stunned to see how little of my work actually matters.

Still, my one comfort is this:

You judge the intent of my heart.

If what I’m doing is truly for You

You transform it into eternal, heavenly treasure.

Pray this Lazaroo in marveling gratitude:

“…he went and lived in a town called Nazareth.”
(Matthew 2:23)

Your stepdad had no idea he was fulfilling Scripture, did he, Jesus?

He just picked out the town that seemed to be a safer place to live.

How many times do I unknowingly do the same thing with my choices –

the places I live
the vehicles I drive
the relationships I enjoy
the work I do?

Absolutely all of it fits perfectly –

into Your plan for the ages.

Pray this Lazaroo with no-holds-barred surrender:

“I struck all the work of your hands with blight…”
(Haggai 2:17)

Unreal, Jesus.

Farmers break up the hard soil
plant their seeds in the field
row after row after row.

They bring water when there’s not enough rain
hoe out the weeds that sprout
until their plants grow tall

and then the entire crop withers and dies from a disease

sent by You.

When I think my work matters more than my God

I may want to reconsider.
