Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“…they leap over the mountaintops…”
(Joel 2:5)

You’re describing the Day of the LORD, Jesus

when an army of supernatural locusts will sweep over the earth
in terrifying pain, anguish and destruction.

Nowhere will be safe
not even those nestled in valleys surrounded by mountains.

I don’t want to be here then!
I don’t want to be surrounded by the suffering those locusts bring.

Some people say I may
some say I won’t

But either way

I’ll have You.

Sell out totally to God as you pray this Lazaroo:

“The LORD said to me…”
(Hosea 3:1)

I always get a little nervous when somebody talks like that, Jesus.

Oh, not in Scripture!

I love it there.
I trust it.
I know it’s true.

I mean it makes me nervous when people I know – or even strangers – talk like that around me.

Not because I don’t believe it’s possible
but because I don’t believe it’s likely

…unless it comes from someone who through the years

I’ve come to respect.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning desire:

“Remember the height from which you have fallen!”
(Revelation 2:5)

That’s a hard command to obey, Jesus.

Absolutely brutal.

If fills me with guilt –

because I know I didn’t have to fall.

If only I had stayed consistent!

plugging away
determined
one step at a time

I’d be looking down on that height

instead of up at it.

Nothing I can about it now.
What’s done is done.

But that glance at where I once was
inspires me to go after it again.

Pray this Lazaroo with a longing heart:

“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever…He reveals deep…things…”
(Daniel 2:20, 22)

Yes You do, Jesus!

things too deep for me to

understand
grasp
fathom.

You’re the God of the deep!

You rule over the surface
but only You can plumb the deepest depths

because they were created
by You.

Deep isn’t deep to You.

Deep is as accessible to You
as a bowl of cereal is to me.

O God!

Show me the deep.

Pray this Lazaroo with sharpened eye:

“They are wild waves of the sea…”
(Jude 1:13)

From the perspective of a boat passenger, Jesus

I can only imagine what a wild wave person might be.

frightening
threatening
lethal.

On the sea, one wild wave

can sink a boat
drown hundreds
incur huge financial loss
divide friends and families
destroy carefully laid plans
end countless dreams.

One wild wave person can cause all of that and more.

O God!

Protect my little boat
from the wild wave.

Face it…as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…words you cannot understand.”
(Ezekiel 3:6)

With more than a million words in the English language, Jesus

there are plenty I can’t understand.

With more than 6,500 spoken languages worldwide

the number of words I can’t understand is mind boggling.

It’s the words I do understand but don’t obey

that bother me.

Sure, there are some words in the Bible that I probably don’t truly grasp

but You make most of it so plain that misunderstanding

isn’t my problem.

Pray this Lazaroo with heartfelt emotion:

“It gave me great joy…”
(3 John 1:3)

Not everybody can say that, Jesus.

Some people don’t have the capacity for any kind of joy
let alone great joy.

Oh, they know what fun is

they can laugh, have a good time
feel good, experience positive emotions

but joy?

Huh-uh.

Joy – true joy – comes solely from You.

Someone might even believe they’ve been joyful
until You give them a taste of the real thing

and blow their minds.

Pray this Lazaroo in sobered assessment:

“…look upon my suffering.”
(Lamentations 1:18)

Sometimes I agree with Jeremiah, Jesus –

I want people to know what I’m going through

so they can pray
so I can get a little sympathy
so they’ll cut me some slack in my work.

At other times, not so much.

I prefer to appear strong, competent
unfazed by the challenges in my life.

Of course, You know how weak and needy I really am

as, I suspect…do most of them.

Pray this Lazaroo in unvarnished self-awarness:

“…mercy…from God…”
(2 John 1:3)

That’s absolutely where mercy comes from, Jesus –

You.

The closer I get to You
the more time I spend with You

the more merciful I become.

The less time I spend with You
the greater the distance that develops between You and me

the more I care about

punishment
vengeance
payback.

Odd, isn’t it?

That someone so in need of outrageously huge helpings of mercy
would have such a hard time offering it.

Pray this Lazaroo in humbled transparency:

“My people have committed two sins…”
(Jeremiah 2:13)

If only two sins

were all I’ve committed. Jesus

Mine are innumerable.

I can’t count them
and I’m the one who committed them.

If I really wanted a closer count

I’m sure my enemies would help me out.

One reason I can’t count all of them –

other than my bad memory –

is that I’m really good at justifying them

when in reality there is never any excuse
for sinning against You.
