Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“‘Many times I struck your gardens and vineyards, destroying them with blight and mildew. Locusts devoured your fig and olive trees, yet you have not returned to me,’ declares the Lord.”
(Amos 4:9)

When our hearts are stubborn and unrepentant, Jesus

this is what it comes to.

Because Your loving kindness doesn’t compel us

all that’s left is pain.

O God!

May I respond to Your love
Your generosity to me
Your goodness, mercy and forgiveness!

May I never bring upon myself

Your wrath.

Pray this Lazaroo in healthy, loving fear:

“God is a righteous judge, a God who displays his wrath every day. If he does not relent, he will sharpen his sword; he will bend and string his bow. He has prepared his deadly weapons; he makes ready his flaming arrows.”
(Psalm 7:11-13)

So much for the blasphemous idea that You’re nothing but benevolent, toothless mush, Jesus.

May I never mistake the amazing, loving grace
You extended to me on the cross

for weakness against unrepentant, willful sin!

Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, he said to them: ‘You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.’”
(Matthew 3:6-8)

John the Baptist didn’t mince words, Jesus!

When all is said and done
more is said than done.

Words are cheap.

I’ve got to back mine up with action.

Pray this Lazaroo with every fiber of your being:

“The wrath of God has come upon them at last.”
(1 Thessalonians 2:16)

I’m not asking You to punish anyone, Jesus!

Not even those who’ve hurt me the most.

The reason is simple:

I’ve sinned against You so many times.
You’ve forgiven and blessed me times beyond counting.

How dare I ask You to treat them worse
than in Your mercy You’ve treated me?

But for those who deliberately flaunt You without sorrow or regret?

Their day is coming.

Pray this Lazaroo with every fiber of your being:

“Is the Spirit of the LORD angry?”
(Micah 2:7)

I know You get that way sometimes, Jesus

because You say so!

That’s because we – for whom You have done so much –

give You good reason to be angry
when we defiantly disobey You.

But I’m still here – and not fried to a cinder by one of your lightning bolts –

because You’re slow to anger

which gives me at least a little time to change my ways

before it’s too late.

Tremble in fear as you pray this Lazaroo:

“They provoked the LORD to anger…”
(Judges 2:12)

You’re slow to anger, Jesus.

It takes a lot to get You steamed.

If that wasn’t so, I’d be dead

along with the entire human race.

We’re all sinners.
Every last one of us.

But though You’re slow to anger

You eventually get there.

There’s a line I’d better not cross.

I don’t see it.
I have no idea how far ahead of me it lies.

Best response?
Turn around.

Now.

Pray this Lazaroo in fervency of spirit:

“They have the appearance of horses…”
(Joel 2:4)

I can see the resemblance between a horse and a locust, Jesus…

sort of…
if I squint.

But these weren’t normal locusts, were they?

You sent them to strip away every blade of vegetation
growing in the land of Your people.

As Creator, all power is Yours.

You had the ability to give these locusts
any appearance You wished

and You exercised it.

May I never anger You as they did.
