Pray this Lazaroo with white-hot fervor:

“…you have plundered many nations…”
(Habakkuk 2:8)

Some nations are like that, Jesus.

So are some people.

They’re not happy with what You’ve given them.

They want more.

So they steal for themselves

what You’ve given others.

Some of them get away with it

for a while.

But as surely as You’re the righteous Judge

a day of reckoning is coming

swiftly for some
later for others

but from the moment they cross that line

it’s on the way.

Pray this Lazaroo with fierce determination:

“…on the day they are made ready…”
(Nahum 2:3)

When Ninevah’s enemies were ready

bad things happened.

But the reverse is also true!

Wonderful things happen when I do everything within my power
to get ready for You to do
what only You can do.

I’m not fooling myself.

I know I can’t make my dreams come true.

Only You!
Only You!
Only You!

But You expect me to give it all I’ve got

while I wait for You.

Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“Do not my words do good to the one whose ways are upright?”
(Micah 2:7)

Yes they do, Jesus.

I can personally attest!

When I’m weak, Your words give me strength.
When I’m afraid, Your words give me courage.
When I’m in pain, Your words bring me healing.
When I’m in despair, Your words fill me with hope.

And on the day when I am about to draw my last breath

Your words give me absolute assurance

of eternal life.

Pray this Lazaroo with laser-focused intensity:

“…the fish…vomited Jonah onto dry land.”
(Jonah 2:10)

All these miracles, Jesus!

You send Jonah to preach to Ninevah.
When he hops a boat in the opposite direction, You create a storm.
When they throw him overboard, You send a fish to swallow him.
When he repents, You order the fish to spit him out –

not into the ocean, but onto dry land!

Thank You for reminding me how serious You are

when You send me to tell others about You.

Pray this Lazaroo with no-holds-barred surrender:

“They will occupy the fields of…Samaria…”
(Obadiah 1:19)

For years Your people refused to enter Samaria, Jesus –

home of those who intermarried with non-Jews
who mixed worship of You with worship of false gods.

But You loved them, ministered to them, won them to Yourself!

How often You draw closer to the outcast
than to the proud and haughty!

Remind me not to seek acceptance by the in-crowd, Holy Spirit

but to search for those

who are searching for You.

Pray this Lazaroo with excuseless humility:

“When disaster comes to a city, has not the LORD caused it?”
(Amos 3:6)

Most people don’t know this verse is in the Bible, Jesus.

Many who do try to explain it away.

Others reel under its implications, forced to rethink their image of You.

You’re not the old grandfather who wouldn’t harm a flea, are You?
You’re Almighty God, who pours out wrath on wrongdoers every day.

You’re loving, forgiving, kind, compassionate, merciful

…but You absolutely hate sin.

Pray this Lazaroo in holy determination:

“…each marches straight ahead.”
(Joel 2:8)

Joel is referring to that army of supernatural locusts, Jesus –

a terrifying sight.

Marching “straight ahead” makes it sound like no matter what happened

they could not be sidetracked, distracted or stopped.

That’s who I long to be for You!

When it comes to obeying Your every command
may I be a soldier You can count on –

looking neither to the right, nor to the left
but keeping my eyes fixed on You.

Pray this Lazaroo with every fiber of your being:

“…the Israelites will live many days without king or prince…”
(Hosea 3:4)

At first, that may not have seemed like much of a threat, Jesus.

They had lived for more than a thousand years without either –
trusting Your prophets and judges to lead them.

Now, however, they had spent the last 300 years living under a king.

They were used to it.
Dependent on it.

Like I would be without You

they were leaderless…directionless.

Lead me, Holy Spirit!

Pray this Lazaroo with goose bumps:

“These are the words of him…who died and came to life again.”
(Revelation 2:8)

That would be You, Jesus.

And that gets my attention.

Yours wasn’t one of those “near-death” swoons lasting a few seconds.

You were crucified, speared, dead, embalmed, buried –
in the grave from Friday night to Sunday morning.

Then You walked out whole, triumphant!

You have the words of eternal life.

When You speak

things happen.

When You speak

I’m listening.

When You speak

I’m obeying.

Think again!…as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Do not execute the wise men of Babylon.”
(Daniel 2:24)

Daniel was pleading for the lives of heathens Jesus.

But he had to!

…because he was being lumped in with the very men
the king had ordered to be executed.

From a distance, Daniel could have been accused

of backing the wrong crowd.

But when I know the whole story

it makes perfect sense.

How often is that the case, Father?

How seldom do I know

the whole story?
