Pray this Lazaroo – overwhelmed with gratitude:

“…God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ…”
(Ephesians 2:4-5)

I was dead, wasn’t I, Jesus?

But I didn’t know it.
Not at first.

Not even in that moment when I accepted You as my Savior.

Only afterwards – when I drew my first born-again breath –
did it begin to dawn on me:

I had been one of the walking dead.

No wonder our society is so mesmerized by zombies.

We have fun with them because we think they’re fictitious.

But I can testify:
They’re not.

Pray this Lazaroo in total awe:

“…the house of Judah has anointed me king over them.”
(2 Samuel 2:7)

Some people anoint themselves king, Jesus.

Some are powerful enough to force their way onto the throne.

Some are so humble that they are the ones who have to be forced to reign.

Some are so charismatic that they’re able to convince others to anoint them.

But however they arrive at their place of power, You’re the Kingmaker.

You raise them up

and whenever You decide
You can take them out.

Pray this Lazaroo in passionate gratitude:

“…they saw that I had been entrusted with the task of preaching the gospel to the Gentiles…”
(Galatians 2:7)

We wouldn’t have made this assignment, Jesus.

Paul was a Jew.

We wouldn’t have chosen him to tell non-Jews about You.

In fact, when you knocked him off his horse and blinded him to get his attention

he was imprisoning and killing Christians.

But You love doing the unexpected!

which may explain why You chose me

since I’m an even more unlikely choice to do Your work

than Paul.

Pray this Lazaroo in heartbreak…and anticipation:

“…those who were hungry hunger no more.”
(1 Samuel 2:5)

What a day that will be, Jesus!

Worldwide, one in nine people go to bed hungry every night –
three-quarters of a billion human beings.

Hunger kills more people each year than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined.

Half of the deaths to children under five years of age
are caused by the malnutrition that results from hunger.

Every year, three million little ones
starve to death

while nearly two billion of us in wealthy countries

are overweight.

Ask God for an “Aha!” moment as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…who is left to make me glad but you whom I have grieved?”
(2 Corinthians 2:2)

Indeed, Jesus.

The people I hurt the most
are those I love the most!

But why?

I guess part of it is proximity.

The more time we spend together
the more likely we are to experience friction.

But there’s another reason too, isn’t there?

I take those closest to me for granted
saying and doing unkind, inconsiderate things to them

that I never would to a stranger.

Pray this Lazaroo in passionate trust:

“…she found herself working in a field…”
(Ruth 2:3)

Haven’t we all, Jesus.

Well…maybe not.

Some of us aren’t working.
Some of us are working – but not in a field that’s productive.

All I want to do is follow Ruth’s example, Father.

You placed her in the field that was perfect for her
then gave her the wisdom and energy to work it well.

Place me in whatever field You like…

and may I work it in a way that brings You pleasure.

Pray this Lazaroo overwhelmed with gratitude:

“Christ Jesus…our…redemption…”
(1 Corinthians 1:30)

You bought me back, Jesus.

In sin, I sold myself to Satan.

He fully intended to keep me

use me to kill, steal, destroy others
then myself.

At first, I was deceived

until he overplayed his hand
and my eyes were opened.

In desperation, I cried out to You.

If I had got what I deserved, You would have said:

“No! You made your bed – lie in it.”

Instead, though I was now worthless

You bought me back.

Pray this Lazaroo with bulldog determination:

“…another generation grew up, who knew neither the LORD nor what he had done for Israel. Then the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD…”
(Judges 2:10-11)

How did this happen, Jesus?

Did the previous generation fail to teach their children
or did the children reject their parents’ teaching?

Somebody blew the handoff of faith.

The baton got dropped in the dirt.

When that happens

evil is sure to follow.

O God! I’m begging You!

Help me pass it on.
