Pray this Lazaroo with total transparency:

“A man with leprosy came to him and begged him on his knees, ‘If you are willing, you can make me clean.’”
(Mark 1:40)

That’s me, Jesus.

I don’t have leprosy
but I have something far worse:

sin.

I know You died on the cross to pay for all my sins

in full.

So out of gratitude

why don’t I stop sinning these same disgusting sins?

I don’t know.

But here I am again

on my knees
begging you to make me clean.

Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“But Moses said to God, ‘Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?’”
(Exodus 3:11)

Good question, Jesus.

Moses wanted to know why You picked him.

He was looking at himself, trying to imagine what You saw in Him

and coming up empty.

His question borders on the blasphemous, though, doesn’t it?

daring to suggest that You might be making a mistake.

But it wasn’t about Moses’ qualifications.
Nor is it about mine.

It’s about Yours.

Pray this Lazaroo in full-on trust:

“…where he stayed until…”
(Matthew 2:15)

That just about sums up my whole life down here, doesn’t it, Jesus?

No matter where I am
what I’m doing
who I’m with

it’s only temporary until…?

In fact, the more certain I am that things won’t change
the more likely they are to go topsy-turvy.

Actually, it only seems that way to me.

Not to You.

My next place
next assignment
next group of people

are neatly scheduled

by the only One
who guides my every step.

Pray this Lazaroo with no-holds-barred surrender:

“We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden…”
(Genesis 3:2)

Eve having a chat with Satan, Jesus…

…informing him of what she could and couldn’t do.

Her grocery store was every tree, bush and plant in the garden

…except one –

the one from which Satan was tempting her to eat.

And she bit.

The whole world’s my shopping cart, isn’t it, Jesus?

You’ve marked only a handful off-limits.

Please help me go to school
on what happened to Eve.

 Pray this Lazaroo…in awe:

“…this called for reverence…”
(Malachi 2:5)

I can’t afford to forget that, can I, Jesus?

Yes, You left heaven to become one of us.
You are my helper, my best friend.

You alone understand me.
You forgive my most grievous sins – over and over and over again.

But may I always remember that You are the Creator of heaven and earth!

You are Alpha and Omega
the Beginning and the End.

You’re far more than my buddy.
You Are –

my LORD and my God.

Pray this Lazaroo, in faith, believing:

“I will be its glory within.”
(Zechariah 2:5)

That’s what I long for, Jesus!

Less of me
more of You.

Well…maybe not less of me.

Maybe what I mean to say is –
more of the person You created me to be.

But I need You to turn that desire into reality!

I can’t fake it.
I can’t try really hard and achieve it.

I do have to give You my all…

but my all will never be good enough.

Be my glory, Father!

within.

Pray this Lazaroo in holy caution:

“…it becomes defiled.”
(Haggai 2:13)

We lie to ourselves, don’t we, Jesus?

We think we can hang with the wrong crowd
get hooked on trashy television shows
sit through movies filled with evil
watch sleazy Internet videos
read blasphemous books

and not have it affect our relationship with You.

Wrong.

The more time we spend with people who defy You

the more we become like them.

The longer we soak our eyes, ears and minds in sewage

the greater our stench in Your nostrils.
