Pray this Lazaroo with clear-eyed resolve:

“He did evil in the eyes of the LORD…”
(2 Kings 3:2)

When it comes to doing good or evil, Jesus

Yours are the only eyes that matter.

My culture applauds behaviors You call sin.
My culture decries actions You command me to carry out.

Without question, my culture exerts a lot of pressure on me to conform.

But last time I checked…

at the end of my life I will stand before You
and not my culture.

Pray this Lazaroo with undiluted sincerity:

“…your joy in Christ Jesus will overflow on account of me.”
(Philippians 1:26)

I’d love for somebody’s joy in You…

to be my fault, Jesus!

I hope that’s already happened –

but if so, I’d like it to happen again

and again
and again.

In fact, if You want to use me to spread Your joy to everyone I know

I couldn’t be happier about it.

Fun can be had.

Joy, on the other hand, has to be granted

by You.

Pray this Lazaroo with Godly discernment:

“Please ask King Solomon – he will not refuse you – “
(1 Kings 2:17)

That should have been Bathsheba’s first clue, Jesus:

Something about Adonijah’s request didn’t smell right.

Why didn’t he go to Solomon himself?

Because his request didn’t stand on its own merit.

He was hoping Solomon’s love for his mother
would blind him to its hidden agenda.

Help me take a lesson, Holy Spirit…

next time somebody asks me to do their dirty work.

Fully open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…it is by grace you have been saved.”
(Ephesians 2:5)

If somebody asked me, “Can you save yourself?”

I’d tell them, “No!”

Only You can save me, Jesus.

So why do I sometimes act like that’s not the case?

When I can tell I’m falling short in my efforts to live like You

I’m sometimes haunted by fears that I might miss heaven.

Please remind me, Jesus!

What You did for me on the cross
is way, way more than enough.

Pray this Lazaroo with locked-in faith:

“Abner…made him king…”
(2 Samuel 2:8-9)

What happens when one man kings another, Jesus?

Not much.
Not for long.
Not for good.

You…are the kingmaker.

What You say, goes.
Whom You anoint, reigns.

Everyone else is a pretender, a wannabee.

Those who believe they can make it happen
are asking to be taught a lesson

by You.

Whoever attempts to promote someone without first checking for the unmistakable signs of Your approval

is setting himself up for a rude awakening.

Pray this Lazaroo in heartfelt gratitude:

“For God…was at work in the ministry of Peter…”
(Galatians 2:8)

I’m so glad You’re at work in human ministry, Jesus!

I shudder to think how little good I would accomplish
if it was all on me.

As I’ve tried to serve You over the years

the quality of my service hasn’t always been the best.

There are times when my attitude
could have been just the tiniest bit better. 😉

Thank You for turning my inadequacy

into something amazingly supernatural.

Pray this Lazaroo, in sobered hope:

“…she who has had many sons pines away.”
(1 Samuel 2:5)

That’s not the way it’s supposed to work, is it, Jesus?

To have many children is supposed to be a blessing.

When isn’t it?

When they’re good kids who are lost –
at war…to disease…in some terrible tragedy.

When they go astray –

breaking the hearts of those who’ve loved them…
rejecting You.

May I never give You cause to regret the day You died on the cross

to make me Your child.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“I wrote as I did so that when I came I should not be distressed by those who ought to make me rejoice…”
(2 Corinthians 2:3)

I can identify, Jesus –

remembering people I’ve loved
in whom I’ve invested

who’ve brought me grief.

I know I’m supposed to do everything unto You

and not expect my reward from those I serve.

But still, It’s hard…

perhaps as hard as it is for You
when I treat You the same way.
