Pray this Lazaroo in wholehearted devotion:

“…the priest shall make atonement for them…”
(Leviticus 4:20)

It was awesome of You to provide that, Jesus…

but it wasn’t the best You had in store!

I no longer have to go to a priest to be forgiven.

The priest is no longer required to kill bulls, goats and lambs
to make atonement for my sins.

You became my Lamb.

You gave Yourself – once for all – on the cross
as payment for all my sins

past
present
future.

Pray this Lazaroo with pedal-to-the-metal commitment:

“I am willing…”
(Mark 1:41)

I can’t tell You how much this means to me, Jesus –

how much hope it gives me!

Here’s this man, eaten up with leprosy, who looks to you with eyes of faith –

“If You are willing, You can make me clean.”

Here I am, eaten up with the leprosy of my sins and overwhelming problems

knowing You alone can make me clean
daring to believe I will hear from Your lips

“I am willing.”

Ask God to increase your level of trust as you pray this Lazaroo:

“And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you.”
(Exodus 3:12)

You said a wicked and adulteress generation asks for a sign, Jesus.

I’ll try to remember that.

But that doesn’t mean I don’t want to ask!

I do.

So when You volunteered to give Moses a sign without his asking

that was pretty special.

I started to ask You to do that for me.

But on second thought…
I guess I won’t.

Pray this Lazaroo in rock-solid confidence:

“Out of Egypt I called my son.”
(Matthew 2:15)

Because of Micah’s prophecy

the people of Bethlehem believed You’d be theirs, Jesus

They may not have liked hearing:

“Jesus of Nazareth.”

Now, Matthew shows Egypt can hold claim on You!

Contradictions?
Hardly.

Your mother was from Nazareth…but because of Caesar’s census

You were born in Bethlehem.

When Herod tried to kill you,

Your parents hid You in Egypt.

In short, You get around!

All the way to me.

Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened…”
(Genesis 3:5)

In some ways, Jesus…

a half-truth is worse than a whole lie.

A half-truth borrows from what is good and perverts it.

A boldfaced lie, at least, keeps its dirty mitts off of the truth.

Just as he did to Eve in the garden

Satan loves to tell me half-truths.

When he does, please remind me:

Eve bit…and got kicked out of Your garden.

Pray this Lazaroo with laser-focused intensity:

“True instruction was in his mouth…”
(Malachi 2:6)

I’m no Levi, Jesus.

I don’t approach his righteousness, faithfulness or eternal impact.
My role in life doesn’t begin to touch the awesome assignment of his.

But I beg You!

May true instruction be in my mouth.

Every time I speak of You

may it be absolutely faithful to Your holy Word.

May I always separate my opinion

from Your fact.

May nothing I say

detract from Your greatness and majesty.

Pray this Lazaroo with mounting excitement:

“‘I have scattered you to the four winds of heaven,’ declares the LORD.”
(Zechariah 2:6)

At first glance, this sounds like punishment, Jesus.

But it isn’t.

It’s Your promise that Your people will outgrow Jerusalem and move into all the population centers of earth.

Wow.

Today, that’s a no-brainer.

Of course.
Totally obvious.
The descendants of Abraham are everywhere.

But back 2,536 years ago when You spoke these words through your prophet?

Unthinkable.

Just as some of Your yet-to-be realized prophecies

seem today.

Pray this Lazaroo in deepest humility:

“Whatever they do…”
(Haggai 2:14)

Oh, Jesus.

The things I do
come from who I am.

The outside of me
is a glimpse into the inside of me.

When I do something right, that says something good about me.
When I do something wrong, that says something bad about me.

But there’s nothing good in the old me.
All my good comes from the new me.

In You.

The only good there is in me
is powered by the God in me.

You.

Pray this Lazaroo in holy fear:

“…they will walk like blind men…”
(Zephaniah 1:17)

You didn’t say they were blind, Jesus –

You said they’d walk like blind men.

They’d have their eyes wide open

and still stumble
walking face-first into immovable walls.

They’d claim they were able to see

but grope along fearfully, hesitantly, without confidence.

Blind people do pretty well in familiar surroundings.

It’s the new that presents their greatest challenge

as it does me.

Open my eyes, LORD!

I trust only in You.
