Pray this Lazaroo with renewed determination:

“They are…autumn trees, without fruit…”
(Jude 1:13)

Even if I love autumn, Jesus

may that never be said of me.

You’ve planted me for a purpose.

Ultimately, it’s not to look good, sporting lots of leaves.
That assignment has been given to shade trees.

I’m a fruit tree.
Fruit trees have one purpose:

Produce fruit.

May there be men, women, boys and girls who come to experience You in deep, daily, moment-by-moment, 1on1 relationship

because of You
in me.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“You are not being sent to a people of obscure speech and difficult language…”
(Ezekiel 3:5)

To those whose task it is to share Your Word in spite of a huge language barrier

You’ve shown Yourself strong, time and again, Jesus –
creating holy connections that defy natural explanation.

But that same miracle is needed when You send me to people whose language I speak!

When all is said and done
more is usually said than done.

Make me a doer.

Sell out totally to God as you pray this Lazaroo:

“I pray that you may enjoy good health…”
(3 John 1:2)

I love knowing you care about me physically, Jesus!

The spiritual is more important
but my physical health matters.

The thing about good health, though, is that I tend to take it for granted as long as I have it.

I seldom value it
until I’ve lost it.

Please help me be thankful for good health when it’s mine

and when it’s not, to trust You

as my Healer.

Pray this Lazaroo with earnest desire:

“The LORD is righteous…”
(Lamentations 1:18)

That’s what terrifies me about my relationship with You, Jesus!

You’re righteous
I’m not.

You’re holy.
I’m not.

You’re perfect.
I’m not.

You’re sinless.
I’m not.

If friendship is built on commonality, I’m as far away from You as the east is from the west

which…come to think of it…
is how far You’ve removed my sins from me.

So there’s only one prayer I dare pray, isn’t there?

Be Yourself in me.

Pray this Lazaroo with catalytic dedication:

“…the truth, which lives in us and will be with us forever…”
(2 John 1:2)

That’s the thing about Your Word, Jesus:

It’s truth.
It lasts forever.

Lies have their run, then fizzle.

A falsehood’s greatest effect is the moment it’s uttered.
From then on, the erosion begins…until it’s exposed.

By contrast, truth may be rejected in the beginning

but time is in its favor.

Sooner or later, the bright, authentic power of Your truth wins out.

Every time.

Pray this Lazaroo with Spirit-led vision:

“…my people have exchanged their Glory for worthless idols.”
(Jeremiah 2:11)

You are my Glory, Jesus.

Anything good in me
comes from You.

How could I ever exchange You

for that which brings

shame
disgrace
loss
failure
hatred
fear
anger
disappointment
emptiness
darkness
despair

hell?

The problem, of course, is that Satan doesn’t mention those things
when he tempts me to sell my priceless birthright

for that which glitters
but is not gold.

Open my eyes, LORD!

Open my eyes.

Pray this Lazaroo in utter gratitude:

“…who claims to be in the light…”
(1 John 2:9)

That’s quite a claim, Jesus.

You’re the Giver of Light.

If I claim to be in the light

in reality I’m saying nothing about myself
and everything about You.

You grant light to people who know they’re sinners

are willing to admit it

and – believing in Your death, burial and resurrection –

trust You alone as their only hope.

Thanks to You, that’s me, Father.

May I ever reflect Your Light.

Pray this Lazaroo in wise anticipation:

“They will beat their swords into plowshares…”
(Isaiah 2:4)

That’s a wonderful thing to do with a sword, Jesus –

reshape it into a tool that digs in the ground
rather than into a human being

turn a megaton bomb into a megawatt power station
retool a lethal dagger into a life-saving scalpel.

Sounds good.

We need to keep working on that.

But until evil is eliminated from the earth
good people need to keep a few swords handy

just in case.

Pray this Lazaroo in holy wonder:

“…when we were with him on the sacred mountain.”
(2 Peter 1:18)

I know Peter is talking about the Mount of Transfiguration, Jesus

when Your clothes suddenly became dazzling white –
whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them –

when he, James and John saw Elijah and Moses appear
and watched awestruck, as they talked with You.

Wow. No wonder he called that mountain, “sacred.”

But in truth, that’s what any place becomes
where I spend time with You:

“Sacred.”
