Pray this Lazaroo with unrestrained allegiance:

“After he has honored me…”
(Zechariah 2:8)

What then, Jesus?

What will You do?

When I honor You by what I think, say and do

how will You respond?

Will You

bless those I love?
answer my prayers?
equip me for greater service?
fulfill my highest dreams?
help me lead others to You?

You can do all those things.

But even if I see none of it on this earth

You absolutely deserve

the honor I give You.

Pray this Lazaroo with deep reverence:

“…consider how things were…”
(Haggai 1:15)

That cuts both ways, Jesus.

I could think back to a better time
and get depressed.

Or I could think back to a worse time
and be encouraged.

But one thing’s for sure:

I can’t go back to what once was.

That was then.
This is now.

As I, “consider how things were…”

help me learn from my mistakes
and profit from my successes

while realizing that You and You alone

hold all my tomorrows.

Pray this Lazaroo in growing realization:

“Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to save them.”
(Zephaniah 1:18)

What a scary thought, Jesus!

to face the fact that I can’t buy my way out of punishment
that in order to change my fate

I’d actually have to become
a nice person.

How unfair!

I’ve tried, but I can’t.

Why…why…to become the person You’re calling me to be

I’d have to surrender myself totally to You

and follow You every step of the way. 😉

Pray this Lazaroo with faith in the God who can:

“Will not all of them taunt him with…scorn…”
(Habakkuk 2:6)

Scorn is incredibly hard to take, Jesus.

It stings, hurts, belittles.

Filled with malicious anger

it cuts deep to the quick.

Scorn is exactly what awaits the evil person.

At first, it doesn’t look like it.
But that’s what happens in the end.

May I never allow myself to be duped by Satan into that destiny, Father!

but may I take comfort in knowing
nice people don’t finish last.

Pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“The LORD will restore…”
(Nahum 2:2)

That’s Your specialty, Jesus!

No one would be surprised to learn
that You bless those who stay true to You.

But when You rebuild what by disobedience
I’ve torn down with my own two hands?

Shocking.
Outrageous.
Unthinkable

Love, mercy and forgiveness
in the extreme.

Besides all that, most of the time

it requires a miracle
to put back everything that was lost

plus a little extra

since in love
You just can’t resist. 😉

Pray this Lazaroo with Banzai belief:

“…you will have no one in the assembly of the LORD…”
(Micah 2:5)

What a tough punishment, Jesus!

When I signed up to follow You
I knew non-believers might desert me.

But I thought I’d always be able to rely on Your people!

Usually I can
but not always.

If I turn my back on You

they may turn their backs on me.

Not to mention If they turn their backs on You

they may turn their backs on me.

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“Those who cling to worthless idols…”
(Jonah 2:8)

But why would anyone do that, Jesus?

It’s because of their temporary pleasures, isn’t it?

Emphasis on the temporary
‘cause they sure don’t last.

Too, it’s because of their false promises, isn’t it?

They can’t deliver on their boasts.
There’s always a deadly twist.

Not so with You, Father!

The pleasure of following faithfully after You
grows with each passing year

while You keep and surpass
every one of Your promises.

Pray this Lazaroo with lavish love:

“…they will set it on fire and consume it.”
(Obadiah 1:18)

To have who I am and everything I stand for set on fire would be bad enough, Jesus

but to be consumed?

to have it all destroyed, leaving no trace?

Heartbreak.
Irredeemable tragedy.

That is the unavoidable, inescapable, certain future

for everyone who rejects You.

Not me, LORD!

I accept, trust, believe in, embrace and adore You!

which means my future is as bright

as Your amazing promises.

Pray this Lazaroo in boundless gratitude:

“You only have I chosen of all the families of the earth…”
(Amos 3:2)

What an honor for the descendants of Abraham, Father!

You passed over nations much more numerous
far more powerful
more famous.

Why?

Because You knew Abraham would do what You told him to do
and pass it on to those after him.

Jesus, thank You for what you did on the cross

to make me – as unworthy as I am –
a member of this amazing family!

Pray this Lazaroo brimming with confidence:

“…like a mighty army drawn up for battle.”
(Joel 2:5)

A sight like that can strike fear in the heart, Jesus

if I’m on the wrong side.

Of course, it’s a wonderful sight

if they’re on my side.

And they are!

No, not every army.

Just one: the army of heaven.

Every other army pales by comparison.

In a battle against Your soldiers, the weapons of earth’s armies

are like spit wads against nuclear bombs.

Bring it on!
