Open your eyes, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Love her as the LORD loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods and love the sacred raisin cakes.”
(Hosea 3:1)

Satan knows these false gods he parades in front of people

are no gods at all, Jesus.

So he always finds a way to sweeten his lies, to make them easier to swallow –

sometimes with sacred raisin cakes
at other times with drugs, drunkenness, adultery.

But there’s a catch.

As with all poisons
there’s a lethal aftertaste.

Pray this Lazaroo with bulldog faith:

“…you have this in your favor…”
(Revelation 2:6)

In spite of their shortcomings, Jesus

the Church in Ephesus had something in their favor

which makes me wonder:

What do I have in mine?

What am I doing that You like?

What am I refusing to do that makes You proud of me?
Where am I growing, becoming a little more like You?

I’ve got a lot of shortcomings, Father;

I really need You to find something in my favor.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“I thank you and praise you, O God of my fathers…”
(Daniel 2:23)

That’s two different things, isn’t it, Jesus?

both of which You richly deserve.

As the God of my fathers, You have my unreserved thanks!

If You hadn’t led them through the labyrinth of their lives
I wouldn’t be here.

As the God of my fathers I should praise You from the top of the world’s highest mountain!

Only You could work through them
to create me.

Pray this Lazaroo with white-hot purpose:

“Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men…”
(Jude 1:14)

That’s nothing short of amazing, Jesus.

I take that back.

For Enoch to precisely foretell what a group of people were going to be, say and do 3,000 years before they walked this earth

is an absolute miracle.

Of course, that should be no surprise.

Enoch was the one you took to heaven
without requiring him to die first.

Teach me to walk with You

as he did.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“…the whole house of Israel is hardened…”
(Ezekiel 3:7)

How does a person get that way, Jesus?

Is it their response to disappointment?
Is it the byproduct of repeated sin?

I’m guessing this hardening is accompanied by cynicism.

That’s a form of unbelief, isn’t it?
maybe with some stubbornness mixed in.

Regardless, a hardened heart can’t be a good thing.

I don’t ever want to get that way, Father!

Keep me soft, tender, pliable, responsive
in Your loving hands.

Pray this Lazaroo with righteous hunger:

“My priests and my elders perished in the city while they searched for food…”
(Lamentations 1:19)

That’s about as desperate as it gets, Jesus.

There’s always food to be found in the city

especially when you’re somebody important
like a priest or an elder

unless the city itself has no food.

They didn’t just go hungry.

They starved to death.

There’s more than one way to die of hunger, isn’t there?

when there’s a famine
of hearing Your Word.

Pray this Lazaroo in unfettered worship:

“…Jesus Christ, the Father’s Son…”
(2 John 1:3)

That pretty much says it all, Jesus.

That’s what makes You different
raises You above the rest.

All the rest.

You’re not just the wisest person to ever live

not only the greatest prophet
not merely a stunning miracle-worker.

You’re The One.

The One to whom all the other (true) prophets pointed.
The One who makes demons tremble.

Alpha, Omega, Yahweh, Adonai, Creator, Abba

The only One who can save

me.

Pray this Lazaroo with undying love:

“Is Israel a servant, a slave by birth?”
(Jeremiah 2:14)

Well…yes and no, Jesus.

Certainly, Your people are called to serve You
urged to serve one another.

But not in this sense.

You’re reminding us that we’re royalty
destined to rule and reign with You!

Of course, those of us who regard ourselves as Your slaves

waiting on You hand and foot
sensitive to Your every whim

are the ones in heaven
who will be the greatest of all.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning zeal:

“…whoever hates his brother…does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded him.”
(1 John 2:11)

It’s the pitch black darkness of hate that blinds them, Jesus!

The non-haters can see clearly what’s happening
but the hater doesn’t have a clue.

The hater believes he is fully justified to despise everything about the person he hates

unable to see the myriad of good qualities You’ve built into them.

Fill me with love, LORD!
Open my eyes.
