Pray this Lazaroo with unrestrained allegiance:

“…your people…practice divination like the Philistines…”
(Isaiah 2:6)

If You had a gizzard, Jesus

that would have fried it.

The heathen peoples surrounding them sought the will of false gods by examining inanimate objects such as rods, arrows, cups, animal livers.

They attempted to interpret dreams
consulted so-called holy people and idols.

That Your very own people would turn to all that instead of You?

Unconscionable.

Almost as bad as the so-called unscriptural “experts” we rely on today.

Pray this Lazaroo with deep reverence:

“…prophecy never had its origin in the will of man…”
(2 Peter 1:21)

That rules out most of the so-called prophecies that have ever been uttered, Jesus.

Some by charlatans

some by those who are well-meaning, self-deluded.

True prophets are rare.

Wannabees a dime a dozen.

When You foretell the future

You don’t have a 53%, 71% or 98% success rate.

When You predict something will happen, it takes place

down to the last detail

100% of the time.

Pray this Lazaroo with over-the-top trust:

“Arise, come, my darling…”
(Song of Songs 2:13)

What an awesome responsibility, Jesus

to call someone I love with all my heart

to join me.

How dare I ask them to do so

if I’m not where I ought to be

and where they, too, should be?

The right place for me is seldom the right place for someone else

may not be safe for them

unless what I’m calling them to do

is to follow You

wherever You lead.

Pray this Lazaroo with faith in the God whose timing is exquisite:

“He was…revealed in these last times for your sake.”
(1 Peter 1:20)

How incredibly blessed they were, Jesus!

They got to see You in the flesh –

the one who had been promised for thousands of years!

They got to walk with You, talk with You, eat with You
ask You questions, hang on Your every word, gaze at You!

But just as You were revealed to them then, for their sake

You’re revealing Yourself now to me

for mine.

Pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“What then do I gain by being wise?”
(Ecclesiastes 2:15)

 Solomon was awfully wise, Jesus.

Your gift to him.

But that question wasn’t one of his wisest.

He was limiting his research to what he could observe
under the sun.

Admittedly, that’s all he could see

but it wasn’t all there is.

The greatest gain of all is doing what You tell me to do

whether it pays off on this earth or not.

Because in heaven

it will.

Get to the heart of the matter, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…don’t show favoritism.”
(James 2:1)

It’s interesting, Jesus…

You tell me not to show favoritism.
You don’t tell me not to feel it.

Of course, I imagine You’d like me to conquer that, too.

But first things first.

Not showing it is easier than not feeling it

though it’s hard enough!

Or do I have that backwards?

Might it be that my only hope at not showing favoritism

is not to harbor it in my heart to begin with?

Pray this Lazaroo in sold-out surrender:

“None who go to her…attain the paths of life.”
(Proverbs 2:19)

Terrifying words, Jesus.

At first glance, they leave no hope.

It sounds as though anyone who has ever committed adultery

is condemned to hell
no matter what.

But that’s not what You’re saying.

The word, “go” is present tense.

If a person stops sinning

that makes it past tense.

If they quit for You, turning to You with all their heart, they have Your promise:

They will live.

Pray this Lazaroo with lavish love:

“For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful…high priest…”
(Hebrews 2:17)

You get it, Jesus.

Better than that:
You get me.

You know why I struggle, stumble, fall.

You didn’t –

but only because You were also God!

I’m not.
So from time to time I blow it.

If You were distant, aloof

that would be a problem.

But You came

and walked in my shoes.

Pray this Lazaroo in joyous adoration:

“…make straight your way before me.”
(Psalms 5:8)

A straight path sure beats crooked, Jesus!

It allows me to see farther
which allows me to plan more wisely.

If there are rocks or holes in the road
it’s much easier to miss them.

Fewer sharp turns
means I can go faster.

But the best thing about a straight path

is that I’m far less likely to get lost along the way.

O God!

Make straight Your way before me!

Pray this Lazaroo with pure devotion:

“I, Paul, am writing this with my own hand.”
(Philemon 1:19)

Which probably means Paul dictated many of his letters, Jesus.

But when he wanted to underscore his authorship
or emphasize a point

he took pen in hand.

Did he struggle to write?

No. He was highly educated.

But dictating to a scribe

allowed someone else to be part of the miracle of sharing Your Word.

May I always be willing to share

Your miracle of ministry through me.
