Pray this Lazaroo in devoted passion:

“The LORD has spoken.”
(Obadiah 1:18)

That’s what’s said when You’ve handed down Your verdict, Jesus.

There’s a finality to it

as though The Judge’s gavel has fallen

reverberating throughout eternity.

When it’s worded like that

it’s usually bad news.

But You also speak amazing promises, LORD!

These, too, are good for all time.

Your promises to Your loving, obedient people

can never, ever be broken.

May every happy, faithful promise in Your book

be forever  mine.

Pray this Lazaroo in fervency of spirit

“Does a lion roar in the thicket when he has no prey?”
(Amos 3:4)

I can’t imagine many things more terrifying, Jesus

especially when I’ve done wrong and know it.

You’ve warned me that Satan prowls around like a roaring lion

looking for someone to devour.

I don’t want to hear the roar of that lion, Father!

Not when I’m in a thicket.
Not when I’m its prey.

Not unless it’s the Lion of Judah

rescuing me when I pray.

Take heed, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“They charge like warriors…”
(Joel 2:7)

Oh, Jesus.

Your warning about this army of locusts
about to descend upon Your people
is terrifying.

You don’t do things like this without fair warning.

You warn us over and over and over again.

In fact, Your kindness is sadly mistaken for unwillingness to act.

Your warnings come so far in advance
that we tragically suppose they will never arrive.

But if we fail to reverse course they will.

Dear God.
They will.

Pray this Lazaroo with bulldog faith:

“So I bought her for fifteen shekels of silver and about a homer and a lethek of barley.”
(Hosea 3:2)

What kind of man would buy a woman, Jesus?

One who did it because You told him to.

Why did she have to be bought?

Because she was a prostitute.

Why would you tell him to buy such a woman?

Because she was his wife

and having sold myself into sin
that’s what You had to do for me.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“You hate the practices of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.”
(Revelation 2:6)

For good reason, Jesus.

These people polluted Your good news
with teachings taken from false religions.

It might not be a bad idea

for me to hate what You hate –
which raises the question:

What false teachings

are people mixing in along with Your Word today?
Are any of them slipping by me?

Show me LORD!

so I can hate them as passionately as do You.

Pray this Lazaroo with full-on ardor:

“O God of my fathers: You have given me wisdom…”
(Daniel 2:23)

There’s no wisdom like Your wisdom, Jesus!

Human beings spout a form of wisdom
that is no wisdom at all.

It’s short-sighted, ultimately false
predicated, as it is, solely on what the eye can see.

But Your wisdom is eternal.

You take into account the whole scope of creation
from the very beginning through ages unknown.

Give me the wisdom of Your Big Picture, Father!

Every time.

Pray this Lazaroo in total honesty:

“See, the Lord is coming…”
(Jude 1:14)

Oh, Jesus…

that’s what I want to see!

You’ve told me to be ready.

And I am.
On my good days.

But it’s hard to stay ready for something that’s taking thousands of years.

Part of me reasons that the odds are not great
that I’ll be alive when You return.

But You’ve told me to watch for Your coming.

Okay. I will.

Help me stay believing, hoping, expectant

wide-eyed and focused.

Sell out totally to God as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…the whole house of Israel is…obstinate.”
(Ezekiel 3:7)

Obstinate is a pretty tough state to be in, Jesus.

Clueless would be better.
So would ignorant.
Helpless.
Stupid.

But obstinate means stubborn.

Hardheaded.
Unwilling.
Mulish.
Self-willed.

Refusing to do it Your way if it means I have to change.

And it does.
It always does.

Because my way is the highway

that leads to destruction.

Your way is the narrow way

the only way
that leads to joy, fulfillment

Life.

Pray this Lazaroo with earnest desire:

“…walk in the truth.”
(3 John 1:3)

That’s the only thing worthy of the truth, isn’t it, Jesus?

To walk in it.

Knowing the truth isn’t enough

neither is reading the truth
thinking about the truth

talking the truth
preaching the truth
recommending the truth.

In fact, there’s a sense in which it isn’t the truth

until I walk in it.

Before then, it’s powerless to help me.

Only after I walk in it

does its joy
come alive.
