Pray this Lazaroo in steadfast faith:

“They are full of…murder…”
(Romans 1:29)

No matter how much I detest what someone does, Jesus

I can’t allow myself to give in to the runaway passion

that leads to murder.

It isn’t between them and me.

It’s between You and me.

I’ve got to believe in my heart that if someone needs killing

You’ll do it –
in the right way and time

never forgetting that I myself deserve death for my sins

but for Your incomparable, outrageous mercy.

Pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“But if you tell…we will be released from the oath you made us swear.”
(Joshua 2:20)

Sounds like they didn’t trust each other, Jesus.

But how could they?
They had just met.

Sometimes that’s the reason I don’t trust somebody:

I don’t yet know them well enough.

Of course, there’s a reason I don’t trust other people:

I know them all too well!

But You I trust with my life.

You’ve proven Yourself –
over and over and over again.

Pray this Lazaroo with unshakable belief:

“In the last days, God says…your old men will dream dreams.”
(Acts 2:17)

But they won’t be ordinary dreams, will they, Jesus?

They’ll be dreams given by You
to lead, teach and prepare Your people.

They’ll be given to saints who’ve walked with You

those graced with the gift of discernment.

I know this because You’ve made it clear:

You don’t give dogs what is sacred.
You don’t throw your pearls to pigs.

If You don’t
neither should I.

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“…except Caleb…”
(Deuteronomy 1:36)

Sometimes that’s what it takes, Jesus.

I have to stand alone.

When everybody else agrees to disobey Your command

I have to be willing to stick out
be ridiculed.

It doesn’t matter what everyone else thinks or does or says.

The only thing that matters is pleasing You.

Because after my time on this earth

it won’t be them I’m standing before
to give account of my one and only life.

It will be You.

Pray this Lazaroo with lavish love:

“Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard…”
(John 1:40)

Am I, LORD?

Have I heard?

With you, Jesus, working ears isn’t the issue.

Neither is being in the crowd
where Your Word is preached.

It’s not being able to quote it
nor discussing what was said.

I haven’t truly heard until I’ve obeyed it

been challenged to disavow it
and refused

been tempted to desert You
and stood firm.

Only then

have I truly heard.

Pray this Lazaroo with wholehearted adoration:

“The Merarites were appointed to take care of the…bases…”
(Numbers 3:36)

The base may be the easiest part to overlook, Jesus

and often is.

It’s down there on bottom, almost out of sight.

All of the attention is paid to what’s above.
Nobody notices the base until it fails to do its job.

What an honor to be an unnoticed but incredibly important base in Your kingdom, Father!

Freeing me to focus on never failing
to hold up others.

Pray this Lazaroo with pure devotion:

“…the baby in my womb leaped for joy.”
(Luke 1:44)

I know late-term babies sometimes leap when they’re startled, Jesus…

but infant John the Baptist leaped for joy
when he heard Your mother’s voice?

Yes.

That’s exactly what happened.
I believe it to the bone.

By normal reckoning, neither of You should have been in any mother’s womb.

But by the miracle-working power of Your Father
according to His plan

You were.

I love it when miracles are afoot!

Pray this Lazaroo with pedal-to-the-metal commitment:

“When he is made aware of the sin he committed…”
(Leviticus 4:23)

It’s possible to break one of Your rules and not know it, Jesus…

sort of.

But because Your rules are there to help and protect me

down deep, I usually know:

Something’s amiss.

I’m at least vaguely aware I’ve crossed some sort of line
done something unwise, even potentially harmful.

So when a courageous person dares to point out my sin

in reality

I have no excuse.
