Pray this Lazaroo with lavish love:

“…come with me.”
(Song of Songs 2:13)

It’s one thing for me to say:

“I’ll go with You, Jesus.”

That’s me making a promise to the one who loves me

more than I can even begin to imagine.

But when You say:

“Come with me…”

Wow. Oh, wow.

That’s the one who knows me inside and out
who knows every day of my past

every moment of my future

inviting me to accompany You
on the adventure of my life!

Pray this Lazaroo with wholehearted adoration:

“…God…raised him from the dead…”
(1 Peter 1:21)

That’s what You did for Jesus, Father

and because of my faith in Him
that’s what You’ll do for me.

Yes, He deserved it

I don’t.

Your Son is perfect.

I’m still stumbling, falling
getting back up
trying to figure it out.

So when I stand before You one day and hear You say:

“Well done!”

There’s only word for that moment:

Grace.

By the power of Your Name, Jesus!

Amen.

Pray this Lazaroo with pure devotion:

“The fate of the fool will overtake me also…”
(Ecclesiastes 2:15)

In one sense that’s true, Jesus.

Fools die.
So will I.

But thanks to You

I don’t have to be a fool!

If I’m a fool now

I don’t have to remain one.

The fool denies You.

I worship You.

The fool ignores Your Word

I embrace it.

The fool can’t be told, corrected or taught.

I beg You to shape, lead and mold me
into Your likeness.

Pray this Lazaroo with pedal-to-the-metal commitment:

“…a poor man in shabby clothes…comes in.”
(James 2:2)

It’s a test, isn’t it, Jesus?

What’s my first thought?
What’s the expression on my face?
What do I say?
What do I do?

I don’t have to ask.

You want me to treat him with love, respect, dignity.

Don’t ever, ever, ever allow me to look down on anyone!

You made each and every soul I will ever see.
Help me think, feel, speak and act like it.

Pray this Lazaroo with white-hot fervor:

“…keep to the paths of the righteous.”
(Proverbs 2:20)

The righteous have paths, Jesus!

Plural, not singular.

True, You’re the only way to heaven.

No one can come to the Father
except through You.

So for each of us it’s the same:

Follow You wherever You lead.
Stay true to Your Word.

But because You’ve made each of us unique

when we follow You
we discover new paths

when we wholeheartedly embrace Your Word
unexplored worlds open before us.

Pray this Lazaroo in wholehearted passion:

“…in service to God…”
(Hebrews 2:17)

That’s what You did on earth, Jesus.

And that’s the example You’ve set for me to follow.

You are both God and Man.

But there was no getting around it:
As a man, You needed to serve God.

So do I.

I don’t have the perfect connection that You have
so from time to time I get my signals crossed.

But may I never – not for one moment! –

cease trying to serve You.

Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“…their heart is filled with destruction.”
(Psalms 5:9)

The idea of having someone like this for an enemy is terrifying, Jesus!

They’re not content with doing wrong.
Not willing to stop at trying to entice me to sin.

It’s not enough for them to hurt me.
They won’t be happy until they’ve destroyed me.

But the idea of ever allowing a person like this to be my friend?
Thinking I can handle it?

Deliver me, my God!
Deliver me.

Pray this Lazaroo with laser-focused intensity:

“…not to mention…”
(Philemon 1:19)

Why do I say things like that, Jesus?

Yes, You gave those words to Paul
to gently chide those meeting in Philemon’s home.

Knowing You, it got their attention –

just as I hope it will when I use similar statements.

Sometimes the “one more thing”

is actually the whole point!

Please help me be attentive when others use such words with me, Father

so I don’t miss what You’re saying to me
through them.

Pray this Lazaroo with eyes-wide-open confidence:

“…kings and rulers of the earth…built for themselves places now lying in ruins…”
(Job 3:14)

That’s the hard, brutal truth, Jesus:

Whatever I build here on earth
will end up in ruins.

Doesn’t matter how well I build
how amazing and compelling my cause
who I thoroughly train to carry on after me.

One day it will crumble.
The day after, people will hardly remember it was there.

Only what I do for, in and through You

will last.

Be watchful, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“They are…unfit for doing anything good.”
(Titus 1:16)

It’s hard to imagine anyone that awful, Jesus…

but they’re out there.

Every good thing they appear to do

has a hidden agenda.

They attempt to lull me to sleep by displaying their seemingly upright actions

steal my trust
so they can take lethal advantage of me.

Sometimes I see them coming a mile away

but only You can protect me from the ones
who are, even now
way too close.
