Pray this Lazaroo with mounting excitement:

“He…distributed gifts with royal liberality.”
(Esther 2:18)

I’d like to be the kind of person who does that, Jesus!

My faith in You means I’m Your child
which makes me royalty.

And no, I don’t have in my bank account the resources of this king

but of a King far greater, richer, more ancient:

You.

Your gifts are perfect, life-changing, priceless.

Oh, how I long for the privilege to distribute them
in the Name that is above every name!

Take heed, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Remember Jesus Christ…”
(2 Timothy 2:8)

Seems like an unnecessary reminder, Jesus.

Who could forget You?

But on second thought…

I do.

Oh, not in the sense that I don’t remember who You are.

But in my head-long rush to do what I want to do
how often do I forget to first check in –
to see what You want me to do?

Of course, that oversight results in me begging you afterwards

to fix what I messed up.

Pray this Lazaroo with every fiber of your being:

“They restored Jerusalem as far as the Broad Wall.”
(Nehemiah 3:8)

So far, so good, Jesus

but not done.

It’s good to stop and celebrate progress

so long as I remember I’ve got to resume working.

Milestones are great unless they’re confused with completion.

There’s a difference between taking a break
and walking off the job.

So which of the assignments You’ve given me have I finished, Father…

and on which do I need to get back to work?

Pray this Lazaroo with utter conviction:

“…there is one God…”
(1 Timothy 2:5)

A lot of people don’t want to hear that, Jesus.

One reason is their distaste for accountability.
They don’t want to admit there is any God at all.

Another reason is their distaste for homework.

If God exists and there’s only one of Him

that puts a whole lot of pressure on them to be absolutely certain

which of all the gods out there is You
meaning all the others

are false.

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD…”
(Ezra 3:10)

Well…they did and they didn’t, Jesus.

Of course Your Word is accurate.
The builders did lay a physical foundation.

But there’s another sense in which no human builder could ever lay the foundation for Your temple

because no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid:

You.

Every other foundation anyone lays

is laid on my Creator and Savior
the only sure Foundation.

Pray this Lazaroo in solemn warning:

“They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.”
(2 Thessalonians 2:10)

That’s interesting, Jesus…

I thought the way to be saved was to trust You.
And it is.

But if I understand You correctly

if I don’t love the truth
I will never reach the point of trusting You.

A lover of truth

sometimes has to endure correction, hardship, even humiliation
to get it.

Which is why some people

refuse to love the truth.

Pray this Lazaroo with undiluted sincerity:

“Then Solomon began to build the temple of the LORD in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the LORD had appeared to his father David.”
(2 Chronicles 3:1)

Was this mere sentiment, Jesus –

Solomon building Your temple
where You appeared to his father?

No.

It was Your plan.
From the very beginning.

At the time Your angel stood over him there

David had no idea.

We seldom do.

But Your purposes are always greater
than we can begin to conceive.

Pray this Lazaroo with explosive feeling:

“…God…calls you into his…glory.”
(1 Thessalonians 2:12)

That’s hard for me to grasp, Jesus.

Your glory is blindingly great
marvelous, magnificent
beyond adequate description.

To be told You’re calling me into that?

Surely not
Not I.

Not this filthy, sinning, slipping and falling soul.

And yet…

How can I refuse You anything?
How dare I miss what You’ve prepared for me?

Too often I’ve played the fool.

But not this time.

If You’re calling, I’m coming.

Yes.
Oh, yes!

Fully open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…Moses the servant of God…”
(1 Chronicles 6:49)

That’s quite a title, Jesus. Not –

“Moses former heir to the Egyptian throne”
“Moses who parted the Red Sea”
“Moses the greatest leader Israel has ever known”

because what could be greater than being known as Your servant –

a person who always obeys You
no matter what the risk or cost?

May I so walk in Your footsteps, Father

that one day I will be known above all else

as Your servant.

Pray this Lazaroo with locked-in faith:

“…he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death…”
(Colossians 1:22)

It wasn’t fair, Jesus

not even close.

But it was the only way!

Whether we tried with all our might or didn’t
there was not a chance that we could earn our salvation.

We were broke, busted, bankrupt.

Helpless.

It took You and You alone to buy us back

from the devil to whom we had sold ourselves.

Somebody had to pay

and that Somebody
was You.
