Pray this Lazaroo with outrageous adoration:

“…the upright will live in the land…”
(Proverbs 2:21)

The “upright” You’re talking about

is a little bit more than merely standing erect, isn’t it, Jesus?

In fact, a person hurting and sick while flat on their back

can remain upright before You.

The posture You most value is uprightness of heart, spirit, mind.

When my inside is right
the outside of me follows.

So when my behavior’s not right

the place I need to correct
is inside.

Pray this Lazaroo with pure devotion:

“…make atonement for the sins of the people.”
(Hebrews 2:17)

I’m one of those people, Jesus!

I’m so sorry that You had to make atonement for me.
But I’m grateful beyond words that You did.

I wish the atonement required was only money, service –

anything other than what it actually was:

Your life.

But I couldn’t pay off my own debt!
My sins had bankrupted me.

My only hope was a completely sinless life given in my place.

Yours.

Pray this Lazaroo with pedal-to-the-metal commitment:

“Their throat is an open grave…”
(Psalms 5:9)

Pretty graphic, Jesus.

Over the top, though?
An exaggeration?

Sadly, no.
I’ve run into some like that.

As with a grave prepared for mourners

they can look peaceful, even beautiful.

But the closer I get

the more danger I’m in.

They’re a hole in the ground.

If I fall into it, I can break my neck.
People would throw dirt on top of me.

O God!

From such people, spare me!

Pray this Lazaroo with white-hot fervor:

“…you owe me your very self.”
(Philemon 1:19)

You can legitimately say that to every one of us, Jesus

You’re our Creator.
You fashioned me in the womb.

But can anyone else say that to me?

My parents, I guess.
Sure wouldn’t be here without them.

Maybe a key teacher or mentor.

But what about the person who led me to You?

They can say that to me all day long
inspiring me to do the same for others.

Pray this Lazaroo with total transparency:

“…with rulers who had gold, who filled their houses with silver.”
(Job 3:15)

That’s what a lot of people wish in the beginning, Jesus.

I too have wondered what it would be like

to live like those pictured on television
in movies, magazines, on the Internet

who have seemingly unlimited resources
to do whatever they desire.

But I have something better:

You.

Your resources are truly unlimited

and You’ve promised to provide me
with everything I need.

Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine.”
(Titus 2:1)

In other words, Jesus…

whatever I tell others
has to agree with Your Word.

Not just part of the Bible.

All of it.

It would be easy for me to isolate a verse

take it out of context
imply something misleading.

I don’t dare do that!

You want me to stay in Your Word each day
reading it, studying it, absorbing it

living it out every day.

Pray this Lazaroo with laser-focused intensity:

“Mordecai was sitting at the king’s gate.”
(Esther 2:19)

That’s where I choose to be, Jesus –

at the King’s gate.

Not King Xerxes’ gate, the place Mordecai had camped out.

Your gate.

Of course, I know You’re everywhere at once.

Only You. Only You.

But I’m talking about the place where You’re acting, moving

making things happen.

Wherever You Are

that’s where I want to be.

Right in the middle of it.

Nowhere else
holds any interest for me.

Pray this Lazaroo with no-holds-barred surrender:

“Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead…”
(2 Timothy 2:8)

How could I forget, Jesus?

Because You live
so will I.

If You didn’t
I won’t.

But thank God

You did!

Some people believe You were merely a great teacher.

They don’t accept that You worked miracles
but say You were a good man.

No.

That they cannot say.

You declared:

“I am the way, the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Pray this Lazaroo in grateful delight:

“Rephaiah son of Hur, ruler of a half-district of Jerusalem, repaired the next section.”
(Nehemiah 3:9)

The wall of Jerusalem was broken down, Jesus.

Your enemies laughed and ridiculed:

“What are those feeble Jews doing?
Will they restore their wall?

“Can they bring the stones back to life
from those heaps of rubble—burned as they are?”

Yes, they could – because You raised up people like Rephaiah

a leader who wasn’t too proud
to do whatever needed to be done.

Pray this Lazaroo in deepest gratitude:

“For there is…one mediator between God and mankind…”
(1 Timothy 2:5)

Once upon a time, Job cried:

“If only there were someone to mediate between us
someone to bring us together
someone to remove God’s rod from me
so that his terror would frighten me no more.
Then I would speak up without fear of him…”

You heard Job’s prayer, Jesus –

the cry of every heart.

From the cross more than 2,000 years later You answered it –

with Yourself.
