Pray this Lazaroo with keen anticipation:

“…the priests in their vestments…”
(Ezra 3:10)

You were specific about these sacred garments, Jesus.

First, they were to bathe.

Aaron was to put on linen undergarments

followed by the sacred woven linen tunic, robe
linen turban and sash, breastpiece and ephod.

He was to be anointed and ordained in them

giving him dignity and honor.

Since all believers are priests, You tell me to clothe myself

with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience

and most of all…with You.

Pray this Lazaroo with every fiber of your being:

“God sends them a powerful delusion…”
(2 Thessalonians 2:11)

How could this be, Jesus?

You don’t just love the truth
You Are the Truth!

Why would You send people any kind of delusion…

let alone one that’s powerful?

But that’s what You do to people who reject truth, isn’t it?

When they refuse Your Word
they’re turning their backs on You.

Since they’d rather hear lies than submit to Your leadership

You give them what they want

then lay it on thick.

Pray this Lazaroo with utter certainty:

“…the temple of the Lord in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah…was on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite, the place provided by David.”
(2 Chronicles 3:1)

Well, yes, Jesus.

The site of Your temple was provided by David.
Before that, it belonged to Araunah.
Long before that, it was “owned” by countless others.

But before any of them had it

it was Yours.

In fact, just like every piece of real estate on earth

it never quit being Yours.

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“And we also thank God continually…”
(1 Thessalonians 2:13)

Thanking You is no part-time job, Jesus!

You pour all over me blessing upon blessing upon blessing.
And those are only the ones I know something about.

By far are the greater number of times You’ve

helped me
spared me
strengthened me
rescued me
covered for me
forgiven me
empowered me
motivated me
flat-out done it for me

when I thought I was alone

and didn’t have a clue.

Pray this Lazaroo in humble adulation:

“…in accordance with all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.”
(1 Chronicles 6:49)

Your Word is more than a suggestion, isn’t it, Jesus?

It’s a command.

I can’t choose which commands I like and obey only those.

It’s all or nothing.

Your Word is an expression of Your very self.

When I fully obey Your Word, I’m choosing to

please You
honor You
follow You
be like You

which is the deepest longing of my heart.

Pray this Lazaroo with undiluted sincerity:

“…to present you holy in his sight…”
(Colossians 1:22)

We’re talking about a miracle, Jesus.

I don’t see how I could look holy in anyone’s sight
especially Yours.

But if that’s Your goal, it has to be mine.

Except I can’t.

I don’t mean I refuse.

I mean that no matter how hard I try
I fall short.

If I’m ever to appear holy in Your Father’s sight

it will have to be because He sees You
in me.

Pray this Lazaroo with explosive feeling:

“So at that time King Joram set out from Samaria and mobilized all Israel.”
(2 Kings 3:6)

King Joram was right to set out, Jesus

and You gave him the victory he sought.

However, people sometimes set out for the wrong reasons.

Because they don’t have Your help
they experience defeat.

It’s exciting to set out, Father!

but not unless I’m absolutely certain it’s what You want me to do.

Apart from Your favor

there is no victory.

Fully open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…you will be saved…”
(Philippians 1:28)

Are there any sweeter words, Jesus?

“I love you” is good…
but people have their own definition of love

which may not be Yours.

Of course, it depends on who is telling me I’m saved.

If it’s a mere mortal, I might have doubts.
After all, I know how flawed I am.

But when You tell me I’m saved

I know I can take that all the way
to the Bank of Heaven.

Pray this Lazaroo with locked-in faith:

“Let Abishag the Shunammite be given in marriage to your brother Adonijah.”
(1 Kings 2:21)

How many times have I made Bathsheba’s mistake, Jesus?

She thought she was doing her son’s brother a favor.

But if Solomon had granted her request

Adonijah may have overthrown his brother as king
and killed her and Solomon.

How many times have people plotted behind my back?
How many times have You rescued me from dangers I couldn’t see?

Thank You!
Thank You!
Thank You!

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“…not by works…”
(Ephesians 2:9)

The lazy person is thrilled to hear this, Jesus!

You save us because we believe in You
not because of anything we do to earn heaven.

(Of course, lazy people need to remember

that faith without works is dead.)

Ironically, though, it’s the faithful, dependable, diligent person

who struggles most when they hear
that even their greatest achievements
aren’t even close to enough.

What can wash away my sin?

Nothing but Your blood, my Jesus.
