Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“God also said to Moses…”
(Exodus 3:15)

Gotta remember that, Jesus.

You say more than one thing.
From You…there’s always more.

Sometimes I get so locked in on the one thing

that I tend to ignore the other things.

But nothing You share with me is of unimportance.

Unlike the rest of us, everything You say matters.
If it didn’t, You wouldn’t say it.

So what else do You want me hear from You today, Father?

I’m all ears.

Pray this Lazaroo with lavish love:

“Get up…”
(Matthew 2:20)

Joseph was fast asleep, Jesus, dreaming!

But I guess You knew that
since You’re the one who gave him the dream.

It was good news that he and Mary could go back home from Egypt

now that You had helped the murderer Herod exit this life
and move on to the next.

“Get up!” You told Joseph.

And he did.

Instant obedience.

You really like that in a person, don’t You?
Guess I’d better oblige.

Take warning as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Then the eyes of both of them were opened…”
(Genesis 3:7)

Adam and Eve got their eyes opened the hard way, Jesus:

The moment they sinned against You
they realized they had made a monstrous mistake.

They lost their innocence

their equality
their closeness
their Garden of Eden
their freedom from pain
their kinship with the animals
the ease with which they grew their food.

Worst of all, they lost their happy relationship with You.

It’s not worth it.

Pray this Lazaroo with excuseless humility:

“…’you have violated the covenant with Levi,’ says the LORD Almighty.”
(Malachi 2:8)

You promised amazing things to your servant Levi, Jesus

and to his sons and grandsons who followed him.

But You also gave the Tribe of Levi some dos and don’ts.

Sadly, the day came when they did the don’ts
and omitted the dos.

You’ve promised even more amazing things to me

than those You promised to Levi
but still, within covenant.

Help me honor Your terms!

Pray this Lazaroo with deep gratitude:

“…whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye…”
(Zechariah 2:8)

I know this means I’m special to You, Jesus…

but I’m a little shaky on being the “apple of Your eye.”

It means I’m the very center of Your eye, doesn’t it?

It’s the dark part, the pupil –
the part that determines how much light gets in.

If no light enters someone’s eye

they’re blind, they can’t see.

In other words…

I’m really, really special to You!

Pray this Lazaroo with every fiber of your being:

“I struck all the work of your hands…”
(Haggai 2:17)

How could You, Jesus?

All that work done by Your people
ruined not by their enemies

but by their God.

Why?

Out of love.

You’ll do whatever’s necessary to get my attention and turn me around

before it’s too late.

The destruction of all my work is a small price to pay

for the salvation of my life.

It’s tough love, LORD!

But sometimes…
it’s the love I need.

Pray this Lazaroo with every fiber of your being:

“…he will make a sudden end…”
(Zephaniah 1:18)

You sure can do that, Jesus.

I can be racing along, making my plans

and in one instant
it can all be over.

I have no assurance of tomorrow.

What am I saying – “tomorrow?”

I have no assurance of my next breath –

the next beat of my heart!

My life is in Your hands

and I am so good with that.

Yours…

are the only hands I want to be in.

Pray this Lazaroo with utter abandon:

“Will they not wake up…?”
(Habakkuk 2:7)

Your prophet is not talking about nice people, Jesus.

They’re the kind I’d rather see stay fast asleep.
I’m not too crazy about my enemies being sharp and alert.

You’re the only one who can keep them snoozing, Father –

or if they happen to be awake and on the prowl
You’re the only on who can put them to sleep.

On the other hand…

please help me keep my eyes wide open.

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“The shields of his soldiers are red…”
(Nahum 2:3)

That might be paint on their shields, Jesus…

but it’s probably blood.

Since their shields are covered in blood

and since they’re still standing
their enemies must have fallen.

These soldiers must be awfully good.

Not a pretty thought, Father!

But there’s no way around it:
that’s the reality of battle.

Some of those walking around have my blood on their shields, Father.

Why am I still here?
Only You.
