Pray this Lazaroo with unrestrained allegiance:

“…to find some of your children walking in the truth…”
(2 John 1:4)

One of the great finds of all time, Jesus!

There are so many people who aren’t committed to the truth
still others who have no regard for the truth
and a distressing number who hate the truth.

But there’s another level, isn’t there?

It’s one thing to claim to love the truth
another thing entirely to walk in it –

which is who I’m determined to be.

Pray this Lazaroo with deep reverence:

“Also, the men of Memphis and Tahpanhes have cracked your skull.”
(Jeremiah 2:16)

Total humiliation, Jesus.

It was not as though all of Egypt had attacked Israel.

All it took was a couple of cities
to bring Your chosen ones to their knees.

You broke Egypt to set Your people free

but because those You rescued
enslaved themselves to idols

the vanquished became conquerors.

Which is precisely what happens to me

when I choose anything or anyone over You.

Pray this Lazaroo with over-the-top trust:

“…you have known him who is from the beginning.”
(1 John 2:14)

That would be You, Jesus.

Yes, You came to this earth as a baby
born of a virgin.

You grew, lived, loved, taught, worked miracles
died, rose from the dead, returned to heaven.

But before Abraham was born

You Are.

You created the heavens and the earth

every plant, animal and human – all of it.

Now You’ve given me the privilege of 1on1 time with You?

Mind-blowing.

Pray this Lazaroo with faith in the God who can:

“Their land is full of idols…”
(Isaiah 2:8)

So is mine, Jesus.

Some obvious.
Others less so.

If an idol is anything that so captures my devotion

that when forced to choose

I prefer that person, place, thing or activity to You

then my city, state, nation and world
are overrun by idols.

Of course, that’s not the big question I need to answer:

Are there any idols in my life?

Please help me smash them

before You have to.

Pray this Lazaroo with Holy Spirit-led discernment:

“They will secretly introduce destructive heresies…”
(2 Peter 2:2)

That’s the worst kind, Jesus.

A heresy – teaching something contrary to Your Word –
is bad enough.

Some heresies are factual mistakes –

perpetrated by people who mean well
whose scholarship is lacking.

In some cases their error is troubling, but limited.

However, when someone deliberately sets out to deceive Your people

in order to destroy them?

Their Satan-inspired lies will be exposed and sent to hell

along with those who crafted them.

Pray this Lazaroo, in tender response:

“…show me your face…”
(Songs of Songs 2:14)

Solomon made that request of his bride, Jesus

do You make that request of me?

It’s certainly possible.

The Apostle Paul makes it clear that everything written in the past
was put in Your Word to teach us.

So why would You want me to show You my face?

You made me.
You already know what I look like.

Oh.

When I show You my face
I’m intimately focused on You.

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“…you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other…”
(1 Peter 1:22)

Okay. Let me see if I’m able to put this together, Jesus:

Obeying Your Word purifies me.
Once purified, I’m able to sincerely love other believers.

Of course, the absence of any of those steps leaves me short.

If I don’t obey Your Word, I’m not pure.
If I’m not pure, I can’t love others – at least…

not sincerely.

Pray this Lazaroo, in awe:

“…the wise, like the fool, will not be long remembered…”
(Ecclesiastes 2:16)

Oh, really, Jesus?

Solomon missed it on that one, didn’t he?

He repeatedly tells us that he’s looking at everything

“…under the sun.”

But You’re the God who made the sun!

You’re under it, over it, beside it and all around it –
and a billion trillion other suns besides.

So that’s why we remember Solomon – the wisest man who ever lived –

till You –

nearly 3,000 years later. 😉

Pray this Lazaroo with sober assessment:

“…say to the poor man, ‘You stand there…’”
(James 2:3)

Nothing wrong with telling a poor man where to stand, Jesus.
Nothing wrong with telling a rich man where to sit.

But when I tell a man he can have seat because he’s rich
and tell a man he has to stand because he’s poor

I’m in trouble.
With You.

Of course, I don’t believe in disrespect.
I don’t believe in showing favoritism.

Except…am I guilty of doing it?
