(Ecclesiastes 2:17)

What a perfect picture of futility You’ve given me, Jesus.

Show me everywhere in my life I’m doing this.

Help me stop!

Did I say, “my” life?

God help me.

It’s not mine.
It’s Yours.

Forgetting that is what sets me off
on another wind-chasing waste of time.

Chasing after the wind is NOT going after something too big.

In Your power, there’s no such thing.

It’s failing to check with You first.

“Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world…to inherit the kingdom…?”
(James 2:5)

Poor here, Jesus…

rich there.

I’ll take that!

It’s not that the rich can’t go to heaven, is it?

It’s that riches can blind me to how desperately I need You.

So maybe that’s why You haven’t answered some of my prayers.

Perhaps You’re providing me with the necessary incentive
to keep talking to You.

Pray this Lazaroo in desperate, wholehearted adoration:

“…keep my commands in your heart, for they will…bring you prosperity.”
(Proverbs 3:1-2)

I do want to prosper, Jesus.

But not the way I used to think.

Prosperity – true prosperity – isn’t about money or fame.

As precious as these are
it isn’t even about health, friends, family.

The prosperity for which I long is whatever comes

with being in the absolute center of Your will.

Not one centimeter to the right.
Not one centimeter to the left.

That’s it.

I get why singers sing, Jesus.

But what about those to whom You haven’t given that gift?

I’m not talking about those who think they can sing, but can’t.

Tone deaf, they let ‘er rip anyway.

I’m thinking about those who can’t sing and know it.

Why would they cut loose and sing to You with all their might?

It has to be this:
They feel totally safe in You.
