Pray this Lazaroo in baffled amazement:

“So the king of Israel set out with the king of Judah…”
(2 Kings 3:9)

Talk about being unequally yoked, Jesus…

the king of Judah was honoring You
the king of Israel was not.

Still, You worked stunning miracles and gave this flawed partnership victory against their enemies on that day.

Why? Because it further advanced Your Plan of the Ages.

You’ll work through the worst of us and the best of us, won’t You?

…along with everybody in-between.

Fully open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…the…struggle…you saw I had…”
(Philippians 1:30)

So how do I respond to people’s struggles, Jesus?

Sometimes I hurt with them, feel it to the bone
fervently pray.

But at other times, not so much.

Sometimes I quickly look away
not wanting to grapple with it.

Sometimes I shudder,
thinking, “Glad it’s not me.”

Sometimes I believe they’re getting
what they deserve.

Forgive me, LORD!

Enable me to respond to their pain
as I beg You to respond to mine.

Pray this Lazaroo in loving, eternal gratitude:

“…pay with his life for this…”
(1 Kings 2:23)

That’s what Adonijah had to do, Jesus

and that’s what was required of me.

I’ve sinned against You.

Not once or twice, but repeatedly.

My life!

That’s the pronounced sentence
for willfully defying Your loving commands.

I was imprisoned on death row

until You stepped into my cell
and took my place.

You let them kill You instead of me

so that I
utterly guilty
without excuse

could go free.

Pray this Lazaroo in full-armored caution:

“…he pursued him.”
(2 Samuel 2:19)

Help me to be sure of what I’m pursuing, Jesus

making certain You want me to chase it.

Because with the gifts, talents and skills You’ve given me –

plus this burning determination –

I might catch it.

If it’s good, right and holy

and in Your perfect time

bless my pursuit with success!

But what a tragedy it would be if – as with what happened to Asahel –

when I catch it

it catches me.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“…he was afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group.”
(Galatians 2:12)

There’s always some group, isn’t there, Jesus?

In fact, they run in groups.

They’re the in-group – the ones who seem to be in power.

They’re the ones who think they’re better than others
who get most of us to believe it.

But that’s a lie!

They’re not better.

The reason they’re in a group

is because they don’t have the courage to stand alone

with You.

Pray this Lazaroo in trembling awe:

“He will thunder against them from heaven…”
(1 Samuel 2:10)

Your thunder is something to behold, Jesus!

First of all, it’s loud.
But not just loud…it’s deep, rumbling.
It makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck.

What a reminder of what You can do anytime You choose to do it!

I don’t ever want my sins to force You to thunder against me –
because of what comes before the thunder:

the strike of Your lightning.

Pray this Lazaroo in growing understanding:

“The reason I wrote you…”
(2 Corinthians 2:9)

There’s always a reason, isn’t there, Jesus?

Every person who does anything has a reason.
They may not admit it to anyone – perhaps not even to themselves –

but they always have a reason.

Still, the reason I do what I do and they do what they do

is not the ultimate reason for everything that takes place.

You Are the Prime Mover.
You make it – or permit it to – happen

or it doesn’t.

Pray this Lazaroo in overwhelmed gratitude:

“…the water jars the men have filled.”
(Ruth 2:9)

May I never forget, Jesus

that though others may fill my “water jars”

You’re the One who created the water
You’re the One Who created the people
You’re the One Who prompted them to do it

for me.

You Are my Source!

You Are the Giver of every good gift!
If it’s good…it’s from You.

Thank You for showing love to me through Your entire creation

to refresh my spirit.

Pray this Lazaroo in ardent love:

“…God destined for our glory…”
(1 Corinthians 2:7)

I’m destined for glory, Jesus?

That thought boggles my mind.

I know who I am.
I know what I am.
I know how I speak, how I act, what I’ve done.

Glory…

isn’t exactly what I deserve.

And then that word, “destined!”

That means it’s going to happen.
Signed, sealed, delivered.

But it’s not me.

That’s for sure.

It’s You in me

changing me, transforming me, each day

into Your Likeness.

Take heed, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“They are…arrogant…”
(Romans 1:29-30)

Arrogance is pretty hard to stomach, Jesus.

When I see it, I cringe.

Sadly, it almost always shows up in those You’ve blessed!

Instead of realizing their gifts, skills and triumphs are from You
they believe it’s all because of them.

They think it’s due to their hard work, their brilliance
their superiority over others

which sets them up for Your inevitable punishment

and their disgrace.

May I never, ever – ever!

follow in their footsteps.
