Pray this Lazaroo in warm-hearted gratitude:

“…all their glory is like the flowers of the field…”
(1 Peter 1:24)

I know field flowers don’t last long, Jesus

but as they raise their heads under Your bright sun
gently nodding under a passing breeze

they sure are beautiful.

So I’m grateful.

Whatever glory I gain on this earth –

though transitory –

is nevertheless a gift from You.

I don’t deserve it
but I appreciate it.

It’s a sweetener in the sometimes bitter tea of life

on this sin-cursed earth.

Wise up, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“I hated all the things I had toiled for under the sun, because I must leave them…”
(Ecclesiastes 2:18)

I can’t take it with me, Jesus.

Of course, I know that.
But sometimes I don’t act like it.

The more I love the things I’ve acquired

the harder it will be to leave them
when my time on this earth is through.

But knowing they will soon not be mine

might make me regard my treasures

with wiser perspective.

Pray this Lazaroo with no excuses obedience:

“But you have insulted the poor.”
(James 2:6)

Not a good idea, is it, Jesus?

If I insult the poor
I’ve insulted You, their Maker.

It’s easy for me to judge – without truly knowing – how a person became poor

then conclude they’re unworthy of my help.

But You didn’t command me to be kind

only to those who don’t deserve their poverty.

I’m to recognize that if You’ve put something in my hand

I’d better be willing to share it.

Pray this Lazaroo with pure devotion:

“Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck.”
(Proverbs 3:3)

Many of Your people have taken this command literally, Jesus.

They’ve made necklaces and choke chains of these words
and worn them day after day.

That’s a good thing!

It’s a reminder of what matters.
It sure beats the jewelry a lot of people wear.

But I suspect You intend that command to extend beyond wearable Scripture

all the way to my actions.

Today.

Pray this Lazaroo with pedal-to-the-metal commitment:

“…just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house.”
(Hebrews 3:2)

That’s how faithful You Are, Jesus

that’s how faithful I want to be!

When it comes to Your house of worship on this earth

may I take care of her
do right by her
devote my best to her.

May I treat with reverence the building in which I worship –

whether brick, stone, stucco, siding, adobe, corrugated metal, canvas

under a tree

or underground, hiding from the authorities.

Pray this Lazaroo with white-hot fervor:

“…that those who love your name may rejoice in you.”
(Psalms 5:11)

I love Your Name, Jesus!

And oh, how I rejoice in You!

You’re guiding my every step.

You’re protecting me in all my ways.

Even when I make poor choices

You rescue me, pick me up
and set me once again on Your firm foundation.

You Are Tender, Forgiving, Loving, Merciful, All-Powerful. Helpful.

You’re my Best Friend.

I cannot imagine living without You

deep
daily
moment-by-moment
1on1.

Pray this Lazaroo with total transparency:

“And one thing more…”
(Philemon 1:22)

I know people like that, Jesus.

They ask me to do just one thing for them.

I agree.

Then – once they’ve got me on the hook –

they tack on “…one thing more.”

But I confess:

I’m one of those people, too
with You.

There’s no end to the number of requests I make of You, LORD!

No matter how much You do for me
I always want You to do…

“…one thing more.”

Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“…who…rejoice when they reach the grave…”
(Job 3:22)

Job’s suffering was so great

that the grave looked good to him, Jesus!

He’s certainly not the only person in the midst of pain and anguish

who’s felt that way.

But of course, the grave’s not the end.

It’s only the beginning:

Hell for those who’ve rejected You
Heaven for those who’ve trusted You as their Savior.

My goal isn’t the grave, Father!

It’s the joy of what awaits me on the other side.

Pray this Lazaroo in renewed determination:

“…reverent in the way they live…”
(Titus 2:3)

It’s good for me to be reverent on the inside, Jesus

to mean well
have good intentions.

But it can’t stop there, can it?

I’ve got to follow through.

What’s in my heart

has to show on the outside.

Nobody but You is able to see what I meant to say or do.

They’re stuck with what I actually said and did.

As far as they’re concerned?

That’s all that matters.

Pray this Lazaroo with a determination to follow:

“Queen Esther…reported it to the king…”
(Esther 2:22)

What do I do when I hear something of huge importance, Jesus?

Do I keep it to myself?

In the case of gossip or sworn secrecy
sometimes I should.

But what about those times when the nature of what I’ve learned must not remain a secret –

at least not to the people who need to know it?

Oh, how I need Your guidance!
Lead me, LORD!

I know You will.
