Pray this Lazaroo with locked-in faith:

“…take on one of the young men…”
(2 Samuel 2:21)

Asahel wanted to take down the enemy leader, Jesus –

a noble goal, to be sure –

but one he wasn’t equipped to accomplish.

Abner was older and slower…but more experienced.

Sadly, when Asahel refused to pick on someone his own age

it cost him his life.

Am I chasing anything I shouldn’t be, Father?

If so, show me!

I don’t want to waste Your precious gift of time

nor lose my life.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“When I saw that they were not acting in line with the truth of the gospel…”
(Galatians 2:14)

That’s when I’m forced to speak up, isn’t it, Jesus?

In a company, nation, church, community, project, group of friends

the first steps may seem right

but if over time there’s a blatant departure –

or a subtle one –

I can’t remain mute.

I have to speak up:

wisely, humbly, respectfully…
but firmly.

If I’m ignored, I have to keep trying

or get out.

Pray this Lazaroo with mounting excitement:

“He will…exalt the horn of his anointed.”
(1 Samuel 2:10)

Through my faith in You

You’ve anointed me, too, Jesus!

Thank You!

But what’s up with this, “exalt the horn” business?

I don’t have a horn growing out of my head. 😉

Although…animals do –

rams…deer…antelope…buffalo…rhinos.

Their horns give them a majestic bearing…

honor among all the other animals…

a weapon of power against their enemies.

Wow. Yes, LORD!

By all means: Exalt the horn of Your anointed!

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“Anyone you forgive, I also forgive.”
(2 Corinthians 2:10)

That’s some statement, Jesus…

and Paul made it to an entire churchful of people!

Not only that, he was extending that forgiveness

to the very person he told them to put out of the church.

Am I willing to forgive everyone my church forgives?

Well…why not?

You’ve made it clear that if I don’t forgive those who’ve sinned against me

You won’t forgive me.

I forgive ‘em all, LORD!

Pray this Lazaroo in utter amazement:

“…you notice me…”
(Ruth 2:10)

Ruth was stunned to be noticed by Boaz, Jesus.

She didn’t know You were at work
preparing his heart to be her husband

preparing her to become great-grandmother to King David
whose line extended all the way

to You.

But she was too humble to predict any of that!

Rise up in me with that same humility, Holy Spirit!

Knowing I don’t deserve to be noticed
being thrilled when –

because of Your love and mercy –

I am.

Pray this Lazaroo with earnest desire:

“None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.”
(1 Corinthians 2:8)

It seems so clear to me, Jesus –

why not them?

They saw You face-to-Face, in the flesh!

…while I never have.

They were witnesses to Your miracles!

…while I’ve only read about them.

They heard You speak!

…while I still eagerly long to hear Your voice.

But You’ve granted me

the gift of faith.

Pray this Lazaroo with catalytic dedication:

“…the way of obedience to the LORD’s commands.”
(Judges 2:17)

Your “way of obedience,” Jesus?

Let me take a stab at it:

You expect me to obey You fully.
None of this “I did some of it” stuff.

You expect me to obey You without excuse.
None of this, “I couldn’t do it because…” malarkey.

You expect me to obey You immediately.
None of this, “When I get around to it” procrastination business.

So…is that pretty close? 😉

Act wisely, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…they disobey their parents…”
(Romans 1:30)

Some parents ought to be disobeyed, Jesus –

anytime they tell a child to do something
You tell them not to do.

Your Word trumps parental authority.

But when it’s anything else –

even if it’s something the child doesn’t like –

that child would be very wise to obey mom or dad.

You’re watching.

Children who honor their fathers and mothers
tend to live a long time.

Those who don’t?
Not so much.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning zeal:

“They…forded the river…”
(Joshua 2:23)

– the very river the entire army was about to cross on dry land, Jesus!

But this first time
Joshua’s two spies had to get wet to make it across.

No surprise.

You do it both ways, don’t You?

Sometimes You perform a miracle.

But most of the time You supply the strength
for me to accomplish Your tasks the old-fashioned way

requiring me to work, stretch, struggle.

But that’s okay!

Either way…

I win.

Pray this Lazaroo with bated breath:

“…miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you…”
(Acts 2:22)

…and You’re still doing them today, Jesus!

You’ve worked miracles!
Have I had eyes to see them?

You’ve performed wonders!
Have I been paying attention?

You’ve shown me signs!
Have I had a discerning heart to read them?

You’re the same, Jesus –

yesterday, today and forever.

Give me eyes that see…

a mind that pays attention…

a discerning heart

because I don’t want to miss a single thing!
