Pray this Lazaroo in devoted passion:

“Proclaim…to the fortresses of Egypt…”
(Amos 3:9)

For many years, Jesus

Egypt was a friend to Your people

…until they became an enemy.

That’s how it goes, isn’t it?

My life is made up of seasons.

During one season it goes this way.

During the next season, it may go very differently.

While I’m in a particular season

I think I can change it – or keep it.

But I can’t.

You alone are the God of all my seasons.

Pray this Lazaroo with fervent spirit:

“Before them the earth shakes…”
(Joel 2:10)

Pretty scary, Jesus.

When the sound of my approaching enemies shakes the earth

it makes me want to run –

until I remember:

You Are my Stronghold!

My enemies can shake the earth a little

but You can shake it a lot.

When by faith I stubbornly refuse to tremble before my attackers

You see and approve.

You know I’m overruling my natural instincts
because I believe You Are Greater!

and I’ll prevail.

Open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“They will come trembling to the LORD…”
(Hosea 3:5)

That’s not a bad way to come to You, Jesus.

It sure beats coming to You full of pride.
It’s better than coming to You burning with anger.
It’s preferable to coming to You eaten up with doubt.

When I come to You with trembling

it’s because I realize how small I am
and how awesome You Are

how flawed and sinful I am
and how perfect, righteous and holy You Are.

Pray this Lazaroo with bulldog faith:

“…the devil will put some of you in prison to test you…”
(Revelation 2:10)

Not what they wanted to hear, Jesus…

but they had to be thankful for Your advance warning
so they could prepare themselves for what was coming.

Of course, not everybody can handle knowing such things in advance!

Some of us would prefer to be happily oblivious until it hits.

Please give me a heads-up when You know I need it

and supernatural grace when disaster strikes.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“I have found a man…who can tell the king what his dream means.”
(Daniel 2:25)

That would be quite a find, Jesus!

I suspect most of my dreams have little meaning –
my nighttime brain sorting things out –

though in that, I confess I may be mistaken!

But every once in a while, there’s a dream that’s somehow…different.

I know it means something
but I don’t know what.

When You give me one of those, LORD, please:

Reveal its meaning!

Take warning, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…they follow their own evil desires…”
(Jude 1:16)

Not at all worth following, Jesus!

If I’m following myself
I’m going in circles.

I’m looking in the mirror to get direction.
I’m answering my own questions.

I’m in a self-destructive loop
turning further and further inward
without hope of course correction.

I’m committing the ultimate sin:

making myself my god.

Until I look outside myself

I’m not going anywhere.

If I follow anyone but You

I’m going nowhere
worth going.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“…whether they listen or fail to listen.”
(Ezekiel 3:11)

Some things have to be said, Jesus –

whether or not the people to whom I’m speaking
are paying attention.

You hold me responsible to teach those under my care.

You hold me responsible to warn those in danger.

Most of all:

You hold me responsible to tell others about You.

If they listen –

they learn
they escape danger
they’re saved.

But even if I’m ignored

I still have to speak.

Sell out totally to God as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…for the sake of the Name…”
(3 John 1:7)

Your Name, Jesus –

the Name above every name.

What John did for the sake of Your Name is legendary.

What am I willing to do for the sake of Your Name?

You’re the Creator of all –

the one who gave Your life for me before I was born
knowing the sins I’d commit
knowing how often I’d let You down.

What am I willing to do…

for the sake of Your Name?

Ask God for grace, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…so they may become like me.”
(Lamentations 1:21)

Jeremiah wasn’t asking You to make his enemies wealthy, Jesus.

He wasn’t asking You to make them strong.
He wasn’t asking You to make them happy.

Jeremiah was pleading with You to make his enemies miserable!

…because that’s what He was.

I sure understand why he felt that way.

It’s incredibly hard to watch my enemies dance over my misfortune.

But You’ve given me a new command:

Love my enemies.
