Pray this Lazaroo with a heart full of gratitude:

“…founded a dynasty for me…”
(1 Kings 2:24)

It’s true, Jesus!

That’s what You did for David.

You founded a dynasty for him
that led to You.

But praise God!

The dynasty didn’t end with You!

The whole point of what You did for David

and what You did on the cross

was to establish a dynasty
for countless millions who would believe in You.

So when You founded that dynasty for David

You were also founding it for me.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“…done in the body by the hands of men…”
(Ephesians 2:11)

Paul was referring to circumcision, Jesus.

But there are a lot of things people do
that give them a false sense of security:

knocking on wood
refusing to walk under a ladder
avoiding black cats

performing good deeds
making significant sacrifices
trying really hard
giving lots of money

in order to earn a place in heaven.

But protection, safety, security can be found in only one place:

You.

Take warning, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“But Asahel would not stop…”
(2 Samuel 2:21)

Asahel was racing toward certain death, Jesus.

Abner warned him again and again.

Asahel wouldn’t listen
wouldn’t stop.

So he died.
Totally, his own fault.

You will only warn me so many times, Holy Spirit.

If I don’t stop, the consequences are on me.

Maybe it’s to make better choices.
Maybe it’s to end destructive friendships.
Maybe it’s to stop saying something.
Maybe it’s to change my behavior.

Help me listen!

Pray this Lazaroo with conviction:

“I said to Peter in front of them all…”
(Galatians 2:14)

One titan taking on another, Jesus –

the Apostle Paul confronting the Apostle Peter.

Paul, however, was the newbie.

Peter was one of the originals –
chosen by You to be one of Your inner circle.

So what gave Paul the courage and conviction to rebuke Peter?

It was very simple, wasn’t it?

Paul was right.
Peter was wrong.

When it comes to right and wrong

right must always prevail.

Pray this Lazaroo with catalytic dedication:

“…the boy ministered before the LORD under Eli the priest.”
(1 Samuel 2:11)

It doesn’t matter what the org chart says, Jesus

I’m always ministering before You.

If I’m serving in a church

I’m ministering before You.

If I’m punching the clock in a factory

I’m ministering before You.

If I’m issuing orders from an all-glass corner office on the 92nd floor

I’m ministering before You.

If I working all by myself at home

I’m always ministering before You.

Pray this Lazaroo in full awareness:

“…what I have forgiven…I have forgiven in the sight of Christ…”
(2 Corinthians 2:10)

Everything I do is done in Your sight, Jesus

…but it’s good for me to remember that.

When I’m making a major claim like Paul was

it’s not a bad idea for me to remind others of it. 😉

It’s hard enough to say I’ve forgiven someone.

But to actually, thoroughly, permanently forgive them?

That’s a pretty big deal.

Knowing You’re watching

helps me do it.

Pray this Lazaroo in humble gratitude:

“…a foreigner…”
(Ruth 2:10)

Ruth isn’t the only one, Jesus.

I, too, am a foreigner.

This world is not my home!

Just about the time I forget that
behaving as though this world is it

You allow it
to rear its perverse, unfair, twisted head.

In deepest gratitude I lift my eyes back to You

my longing for heaven increased…doubled…tripled.

Only with You will I finally be at home.
Only with You will I know lasting rest, happiness, peace.

Pray this Lazaroo with unrestrained allegiance:

“However, as it is written…”
(1 Corinthians 2:9)

“However,” indeed, Jesus.

If I move out on my own
pull me back to You with:

“…as it is written.”

Every time I’m with people who are about to do wrong
give me the courage to take a stand for:

“…as it is written.”

Your Word is a lamp to my feet, a light on my path.

Make me willing to break away from those
who have no Light of dawn.

Pray this Lazaroo with deep reverence:

“…the LORD raised up a judge for them…”
(Judges 2:18)

Yes, these judges settled disputes, Jesus…

but they were far more than that.

They were leaders, examples, warriors –

courageous people willing to go first
take initiative, exercise responsibility.

God give us men and women like that in our age!

We have a few…
but at least to me –

it looks like we need many more.

You’re the only one who can raise up such people.

Please!

Send them out.

Pray this Lazaroo with over-the-top trust:

“…they are senseless…”
(Romans 1:31)

Deeply troubling, Jesus…

because I’m thinking of two kinds of “sense.”

The first is earth’s five senses:

sight, hearing, smelling, tasting, touching.

The second is what is called “good sense” –

which is pretty close to wisdom

especially Biblical wisdom
the kind that comes from heaven.

Those consumed solely by their five senses

are blind, deaf, anosmic, ageusic, neuropathic
to things of the spirit

making them – in the worst possible way –

“senseless.”
