Pray this Lazaroo in steadfast faith:

“They…came to Joshua…and told him everything that had happened to them.”
(Joshua 2:23)

Joshua was eager to hear their report, Jesus!

After all, he had sent them to spy out the land.

But there aren’t many people in my life eager to hear

everything that’s happened to me.

They might not mind hearing the highlights

but the more detailed I become
the more their minds wander.

It takes a real friend

to genuinely want to hear the whole story.

Pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“This man was handed over to you by God’s set purpose…”
(Acts 2:23)

Peter preaching on the Day of Pentecost, Jesus –

proclaiming to His fellow Jews:

that at their unbelieving hands
Your Father deliberately sacrificed You on the cross

in order to pay for their sins
and give them eternal life in heaven.

You did the same for me, Father!

You gave Your only Son to die
so that I might live.

May I do so!
Only for You.

Pray this Lazaroo with unshakable belief:

“…they will enter the land.”
(Deuteronomy 1:39)

These were the people no one thought would make it, Jesus!

But You were promising it would happen.

At the time, it looked impossible.

It was!

…for everybody but You.

You’re the God who makes the impossible possible.

You turn faded, black and white dreams
into Technicolor reality.

What impossible eventualities am I dreaming of, Father?

Which of these things nobody thinks can happen

are You about to bring to pass?

Pray this Lazaroo with excitement:

“We have found the one Moses wrote about…”
(John 1:45)

What a thrill that had to be, Jesus!

They’d been waiting 1,400 years for You to appear!

How many generations of Godly Jews had come and gone without getting so much as a glimpse of You?

Phillip, Andrew and Peter were going through this day –

like any other day –

when suddenly, it happened!

there You were!

Miracles of miracles…

I’ve found You, too!

Well, actually –

You’ve revealed Yourself to me.

Pray this Lazaroo with Spirit-led discernment:

“…according to their clans…”
(Numbers 3:39)

What’s my clan, Jesus?

My family of origin?
My circle of friends?
The people at work?
My neighbors?
My state?
My country?
My church?

Could I possibly have more than one clan?

Maybe…but why does any of that matter?

Well…because the people I’m with influence me, don’t they?

…and I them.

Show me who You want to make up my clan, Father!

…and help me leave every clan
injurious to my spiritual health.

Pray this Lazaroo with a pure heart:

“…he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.”
(Luke 1:51)

Wow. Hidden pride.

Thank You for uncovering this one for me, Jesus.

Humble on the outside…

prideful on the inside.

Scuffing my toe in the dirt…aw, shucks…it wasn’t much…

while secretly thinking all the time: “I’m hot stuff!”

Seriously? I should know better. You sure do!

People may praise me for my accomplishments
but they’re not mine, are they?

They’re Yours.

Without You…I’m nothing.

Pray this Lazaroo without excuse:

“If a member of the community sins unintentionally…”
(Leviticus 4:27)

That can certainly happen, Jesus

especially with some of the more obscure points of Jewish law.

But most of Your commands? Things like –

telling the truth
not killing people
faithfully attending church
not committing adultery
sharing my faith
not stealing
pleasing You
not craving other people’s possessions
helping the poor –

those nobody has to tell me to obey.

If I break them, it’s no accident.

I did it on purpose.

Keep in mind the Big Picture as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…the people heard that he had come home.”
(Mark 2:1)

But, in fact, they were mistaken, Jesus.

Capernaum was not Your home.

Nowhere on this earth was Your home.

Your Home is in heaven.

Same here.

Nowhere on earth is my home.
My home is in heaven.

Every day I spend down here
I’m just passing through.

I sometimes forget that –

sometimes make earth-based, short-term decisions.

It would really be good
if I could keep eternity in mind.

Pray this Lazaroo overwhelmed with gratitude:

“The LORD…appeared to me and said: ‘ I have watched over you…’”
(Exodus 3:16)

You’ve never appeared to me, Jesus –

at least not that I know! –

but You sure have watched over me.

You promised You would

and You’ve kept Your promise.

In fact, You’ve kept Your promises to me

far better than I’ve kept mine to You.

There’s nothing fair about that.

Since I’ve broken my promises
You have every right to break Yours.

But hallelujah!
You don’t.
