Pray this Lazaroo with excuseless humility:

“…when the report was investigated…”
(Esther 2:23)

How many times have I heard and repeated a story

without first investigating it, Jesus?

Worse yet –

how many times have I acted on that uninvestigated story?

Why would I do that?

Was it because I wanted it to be true?
Or maybe checking out the story seemed too complicated.

But if the story was about me…

wouldn’t I want the person who heard it to first check it out

before passing it on?

Pray this Lazaroo in holy fear:

“If we died with him…”
(2 Timothy 2:11)

That’s a disconcerting thought, Jesus

at first.

I mean, the very idea of dying is disturbing.

Having company while I do it doesn’t help a whole lot.

But when I realize that that the One I’m dying with is You

identifying with what You did for me on the cross
and making the irrevocable decision to die to my sins

that’s just about the greatest death
I could possibly imagine.

Pray this Lazaroo with keen anticipation:

“…ruler of the district…”
(Nehemiah 3:14)

That’s rather quaint language, Jesus.

Districts don’t have rulers anymore.
We have leaders, officials, captains…that sort of thing.

Unless…

is there some district You want me to rule?

It wouldn’t necessarily be to rule over people, would it?

They don’t like that too much.

But maybe some “district” of my life?

Could it possibly be a district that Satan is currently ruling?

Wow. Gotcha.

Time for me to step up and take charge.

Pray this Lazaroo with every fiber of your being:

“…I want the men everywhere to pray…”
(1 Timothy 2:8)

Of course, You want women everywhere to pray, too, Jesus!

So why single out the men?

Is it because You want to make it clear that praying is not only women’s work?

Is it because men sometimes focus more on showing their faith by their actions

and fail to understand that in time their actions will falter
if they don’t stay in deep, daily, moment-by-moment
1on1 relationship with You?

Pray this Lazaroo with utter abandon:

“…all the people gave a great shout of praise to the LORD…”
(Ezra 3:11)

You deserve that, Jesus!

Sometimes we’re too reserved.

We’re too worried about what people will think of us if we raise our hands or loudly lift our voices to You in praise

which means I’m thinking more of myself
than I’m focused on praising You.

True, I’ve got to be considerate of others.

But if I’m going to offend somebody
let it be them…not You.

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…saved through…belief in the truth.”
(2 Thessalonians 2:13)

It’s not my belief, Jesus.

I can’t save myself –
not even with my own self-manufactured belief.

You’re the One who gives me the gift of faith.
I’m saved by the sanctifying work of Your Holy Spirit.

Who gives me the ability to recognize truth when I hear it?

You do.

Who gives me the ability to respond to Your truth

by gratefully turning over to You my whole life?

Only You.

Pray this Lazaroo in humble adulation:

“…he carved cherubim on the walls.”
(2 Chronicles 3:7)

Sounds beautiful, Jesus.

Had to be impressive.

But give me the real cherubim – Your holy angels! – any day.

Your Hebrew Name Yahweh Saoboth means:

“God of the Angels”

Although they do most of their work while remaining invisible

they appear when You tell them to
deliver messages, execute judgments
and scare the living daylights out of people.

You’ve assigned one or more of them to protect each of Your people…

including me.

Pray this Lazaroo in holy recognition:

“…the Jews…killed…the prophets…”
(1 Thessalonians 2:14-15)

Yes, they did, Jesus.

When You sent Your prophets to correct Your people’s sins
they were seldom received with open arms –

all too often, with hatred, threats, beatings, imprisonment

…and stones.

But Jews are not the only people who shoot the messenger.

It’s hard to be confronted with my wrongdoing.
I want to lash out at the person who’s in my face

until I drop my pretense and acknowledge:

You’re the One who sent them.

Pray this Lazaroo with explosive feeling:

“The rest of Kohath’s descendants…”
(1 Chronicles 6:61)

They’re not all the same, are they, Jesus?

I can rejoice over some of those who come after me
and weep over others –

especially when I remember that my descendants
are not limited to my biological children.

Every person into whom I’ve invested time, prayer, energy, finances

is a child of mine.

O God!

I’m so grateful for the ones who are doing well.
Please transform and rescue those who aren’t!

Fully open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“I rejoice in what was suffered for you…”
(Colossians 1:24)

After their babies are born,

mothers feel that, Jesus.

When they’re overwhelmed with love for their newborn

they affirm that the agony of giving birth
was all worthwhile.

Many of them do it again….and again…and again.

By faith, may I say the same about the suffering You’ve allowed in my life, Father!

When I see what You’ve done with it, may I rejoice!

because the agony was all worthwhile.
